How do I put up with all this shit? Maes shifted restlessly on the hard stone steps that led to his home. It was just one cut and they had to take my knives away, "I for one am a believer in second chances!' he thought aloud.
He pushed his glasses up to his nose and his green eyes shone with rage, the sky seemed dark and desolate. "Hey Maes what's up", said a cheery voice at his left, it was Roy again. "I'm not in quite a good mood as you Roy, does this look like a serious knife wound to you!" Hughes rolled up the sleeve of his shirt to reveal his bare arm "Yeah it does, you should get that seen by someone," replied Roy as he gazed away into the distance, he wasn't even looking.
"Dammit Roy my mom took away my knives because of this!" Maes shoved his arm into the 11-year-old Roy's face to make sure he was paying attention. It had a long slice on it, nothing too deep. "Jesus Christ dude how did you manage that," Roy said jokingly as he looked at the wound. "Well the knife slipped and… why are we talking about how it happened I want my knife!" Yelled the green-eyed boy, slamming his fist into his palm.
"Well Maes I guess we could team up, no matter what happens we'll get your knife back." Roy seemed so proud; maybe he could be the fuhrer some day. Maes chuckled at the idea, this soon became a loud laugh that triggered Roy into a laugh too. Of course since Hughes was laughing at Roy originally this made his crack up, wow Roy was an idiotic kid
The light shone dimly through the closed window in Maes's room, this was the night that the two friends would retrieve his favorite knife. He really didn't care much about the other ones that had been confiscated, they had been bought, his favorite had been handmade. He treasured it from the time he had finished making it, the knife was his pride and joy; it even had a name: Elysia.
Maes turned over on his side and closed his eyes, he thought of what his brother might be doing now. His brothers name was John, he was a very skilled alchemist just as Roy was, but he was already strong enough to create electricity. He used his skill to shock random people as they walked by… until of course he got caught. His parents called him sparky, "what a corny name." Hughes mumbled to himself.
"You talking to me buddy?" a call came from the other side of the window, Maes jumped. "Dude don't scare me like that ok, Maes reached to his bedside table and grabbed his glasses. He polished them off and pushed them onto his face slowly, letting the blurriness slowly fade. "Let's get Elicia back now Roy," he said yawning, he reached out to pat Roy on the shoulder, it wasn't him.
