She is 12 feet away. I want to run to her, to pick her up and hold her in my arms. To carry her far away from here, away from the people who have held her (and my heart) hostage for three days.
Six feet. She stumbles and I can feel myself stepping towards her. Eric holds me back. I have been told not to approach her or they will shoot.
Three feet. They're climbing into their car.
A foot. I can't hold back any more. I run and pull her close to me, promising myself that I will never let her go again.
