Title: Ashes to Ashes
"What happened?" yelled Hermione gesturing towards the smoldering pile of ash where the couch was.
Arithmancy expert that she was, Hermione's challenge was balancing the family budget on two teacher's salaries. Wizard furniture was expensive, so she resourcefully attacked muggle yard sales procuring a bright orange velour couch.
The hatred Severus felt for the couch exceeded that for the Marauders. The cursed object resisted all attempts to transform it black; it mocked him by displaying undulating orange spots on black rivaling any Dumbledore inspired Halloween decoration.
"I tripped…on a toy…spilling a jar of blue flames," he replied silkily without remorse.
