Winds of Change
By RaeAnne

He watches his Master; he strives to learn from him. Obi-Wan, they say he is one of the greatest Jedi in the galaxy, Anakin wonders why. What is it about this man that strikes fear into the heart of enemies yet calms the innocent's tears? What is it about Master Kenobi that makes the unreasonable reasonable without the lifting of a weapon? What is it that makes this man, this Jedi so powerful?

He watches his Master, he strives to understand him. Obi-Wan, tells the 'Chosen One' to mind his place, Anakin lets the memory fuel his fire. Who does he think he is? Does he have the power of the 'Chosen One'? Does he know the Force as Anakin does? No, so why then is Obi-Wan the only man to which Anakin will submit?

He watches his Master, strives to beat him. Anakin strikes out with all his might, he fights with anger and with pride, he fails with every strike. Why is he able to block Anakin's blows? How is it possible that Anakin can not win? "I am the greatest Jedi that has ever lived!" Anakin cries out as he engages his Master again.

Master and Padawan, what is the connection, what is the bond? Why does the Force bind these two with such energy that even the Darkside can not separate them?

Anakin watches his master and for a moment feels weakness. He finally sees what it is he missed. Obi-Wan was calm when Anakin was restless, peaceful when Anakin was angry, docile when Anakin was aggressive. For everything, that Anakin was Obi-Wan was the opposite. Wise as apposed to foolish, levelheaded as apposed to rash, why couldn't Anakin see the error of his ways?

Winds of change blow softly at times and at other times thrash and thunder. Winds of change have blown away the past, rearranged the future.

A padawan caught between the wishes of his Master and the cultivation of his own path is charged with his own padawan to which he will train to be both the galaxy's greatest defender and greatest enemy…

A Jedi Knight training a padawan learner who is feisty and bold…and on the verge of becoming the greatest Jedi ever brought up. A Jedi knows his place knows his purpose, but this man has lost sight of his learner, lost sight of this ones power…

A Jedi Master looks on as his once padawan, now Jedi Knight, careens off his path, toward destruction. The Master looks on with despair, how can he save him? How can he save his friend, this man he has taught since he was a child?

A young boy stands on the steps of a beautiful palace looking to a woman who showed him compassion, who reminds him of his mother, and then looks to the man he will call 'Master' who he stands beside. A boy removed from his mother from the only life he has ever known to be thrown with a man he barely knows to embark on a life so radically different then anything he could ever comprehend.

Not a boy, but not a man wrestles with his past and fights against the pull of his future. His power is coming in strong, he starts to feel his command of the Force excel and bloom. He tastes the unadulterated power and he feels the thirst begin. He stares into the eyes of the woman who touches his heart, he wants her, he will not take no as an answer. He remembers her touch when he was a child he yearns for it now.

The boy turns to man when he holds his dying mother then avenges her death with the slaughter of many. They boy with the gentle smile and welcoming nature is taken from the angry conflicted man.

The man filled with anger, hate and desire for power takes over the man who could fly a fighter like no one before him, who loved his wife the intensity of a thousand suns, the man who knew goodness, who learned from his Master faithfully.

The man is taken away almost completely when the man becomes one with the Sith, one with the Darkside; and in its place is machine, hard cold machine. The boy is gone, the goodness is gone…the man is gone.

He watches his Master and wonders could the winds have ceased, could they have blown back his past, returned his goodness? Could the winds of change, change back his desperate mind?

He engages his Master once more, the lightsaber vibrating in his hands. Anakin takes one last look at his Master. Obi-Wan in his dark brown robe brings his lightsaber in front of him and stands motionless. Anakin could never defeat Obi-Wan, he could never strike him down, the connection of master and padawan so strong even now…

With eyes cold behind a black mask, Darth Vader strikes down Anakin's Master with one motion.

Winds of change, light of love, dark of night, the Force has been indeed balanced. The remnants of the greatest generation of Jedi are now one with the Force, they watch the next generation with hope. Master Yoda, Master Obi-Wan, and Anakin Skywalker all played a part in bringing about the greatest change in history, in the Force.

Master and apprentice are reunited.

"Master, I am sorry…I should have listened," Anakin addresses his Master.

"Aww, Anakin it is done. The darkness has been defeated; you won your inward war. Your son will lead as you did, he will bring in a new breath of air, a new wind of change…" Obi-Wan smiles, putting a hand on his friend's shoulder...

"Done it is, peace there has come…" Master Yoda nods approvingly.
