Brief Summary: Richard Warren decides to start a new
path.
"So what do you do?" Richard Warren asks, looking across from his dinner companion who is sitting diagonal from him at the small table with the red and white-checkered tablecloth. He scolds himself slightly, he probably sounds like that this is a date, that is not is not what he wants it to sound like. He just wants to get to know his new neighbor. If it comes to something more that would be great, but he can't really tell which way this guy swings, he just thought it would be nice if he offered him to dinner, since it seemed like he ordered Chinese food a lot. He is not even sure if this man is really his type, he seems more the committed/ long-term relationship type and not the usual playboys that Richard dates temporarily.
The man's dark eyes watch him, which seem to Richard as if they are questioning his intent. "Does it matter what I do?"
Richard chuckles nervously. He must be sounding like a complete jackass. It is true it is none of his business what the man does. "Sorry…I'm just nervous…We've only made small talk in the hall, Geo…" He coughs, deliberately…."I'm sorry, you probably prefer George right." He is sounding more like a dork as the minutes progress. The man probably won't ever speak to him again.
George chuckles. "You know no one has ever called me that, but I don't see why you can't call me that, but only if you let me call you Rich, Richard seems to pretentious, not the image you want to project." He watches him a moment, taking a sip of his root beer, and then breaking one of the breadsticks in half that sits in front of them, and takes a small bite from one of the pieces. "Actually I work in computers. What do you do?"
"You can call me Rich, that is cool. I'm an architect/accountant for Langley and Langely." He gives him a soft smile, feeling more awkward. He looks down at the table. He does look cute eating the breadstick. He needs to stop thinking that he is probably not even interested in guys.
"That's cool." George watches him for a moment. "You seem really nervous, almost like this is a date or something." He chuckles.
"Uhh…I didn't mean for it to seem that way. I just feel stupid…I mean I don't even know if you swing that way." He laughs nervously, though he feels like banging his head on the table. That was a bonehead remark, he thinks. He probably thinks I am a real idiot.
"You know I never really thought about it."
Rich looks up at him confused for a moment. "What?"
"I never really thought about whether I like men or not. I have just always held a belief that all people were bisexual, and that they only chose one way or the other because they felt they had to live in some box defined to them by society. They are attracted to people and not waterworks."
"When you say it that way, it makes sense…" Richard gives him a smile. "But I am probably not your type anyway, you seem like the type of person who has committed relationships, I've never had one of those."
"Really?"
"Yeah, the only thing that came close is I was married once, but both of us were married for alternative reasons." He chuckles nervously, looking down in his waterglass. He makes sure he doesn't go any further.
"So, what if we said this was a date, I could see if I like men, or at least you like that, and you can see if you can be in a committed relationship." George gives him a soft concerned smile, which rich can see through the ice.
"Haha…Just like that?" Rich looks up at him. He can't be serious.
"Sure why not. I mean you seem like a cool guy, and I am always up for new things." He gives him a smile.
"So, we would both be trying something new. Okay, that sounds like an interesting endeavour." Richard returns his smile.
