The CEO of N-Tek sighed as he looked out of the windows of his office. Floor to ceiling, they were as clear as glass but made of something much more stable and less likely to shatter onto the occupants of the room or, god forbid, anyone standing underneath when it occurred.

Pressing a hand against the window, he silently groaned in annoyance as his answering machine began beeping, trying to catch his attention. He glanced over at it before returning his attention to the world outside of his office.

Sometimes, not often, he thought back to the times when he wasn't confined to an office, when he actually had a life beyond trying to save the world. He wasn't complaining; being a spy did mean that you got to visit places that most people could only dream about, but sometimes he just wanted a slice of normalcy in his life.

Walking back to his desk, his fingers brushed over a framed photograph before picking up a water-filled glass. Taking a sip, he carried the glass with him as he returned to the window, his answering machine beginning to beep once more.

Someone was being persistent.

Normally anyone who worked for him knew that if he didn't answer his calls immediately he either didn't want to be bothered, wasn't available to answer the call, or was doggedly avoiding whoever was calling him.

Must have been a trait he picked up from his father.

Taking another sip, he placed the glass down on the nearest object, which happened to be a chair and stared out of the window, lost in thought. Most of the people he'd worked with at N-Tek when he was younger were still around; some had died, but that was natural.

Didn't mean that he didn't miss their presence any less.

His answering machine beeped for a fourth time and, this time, he relented, picking the phone up.

"Yes?" he said, his annoyance present in his voice and could almost hear his secretary on the other end squeaking and running away from the phone. He could be quite notorious for his temper, although it never reached high-enough levels to incite damage to property.

"Sorry to interrupt you sir, but there's someone here to see you. A Ms. Ryan?"

He smiled slightly, "Send her in."

"Yes Mr. McGrath."
