Title: Alphabet Travels

Rating: K +

Notes 1: The Doctor takes Rose on a whirlwind trip of the world by alphabet before moving on to the rest of the universe.

Notes 2: For Jilly, to cheer her up and keep her smiling. Silly, nonsensical, and random.

'A' was Argentina in the hot summer of nineteen forty-three, meeting Eva Duarte and giggling over cocktails.

'B' was Barbados in the year four thousand, swimming with dolphins and being read to during the lazy evenings.

'C' was China for a New Year Festival, all lights and red and dragons and music. They wore native dress and held hands.

'D' was Denmark when the TARDIS landed in the wrong place. She caught a cold and wouldn't speak to him for a couple of days.

'E' was Egypt in the reign of Cleopatra. The pyramids were incredible and new and they saw Julius Caesar.

'F' was France and the Eiffel Tower, and croissants in a little café by the river. She looked perfectly at home in a miniskirt, and he loved every minute of it.

'G' was Greece a hundred years after her birth, another New Year party, and she had too much to drink and fell into the sea.

'H' was Haiti because he said he'd been there before and loved it. She bought a pair of shoes and laughed at him.

'I' was India during a revolt in the twenty-ninth century. They hid in the Taj Mahal while it passed and she kissed him and then blamed it on the heat.

'J' was Japan and peace. She drank tea and bought silk dresses that he claimed she would never wear.

'K' was Kenya and a safari that included an alien that had to be taken care of. She made friends with a type of wild cat called a caracal. He wouldn't let her bring it back with them.

'L' was what would become Libya, and catching a glimpse of Alexander the Great, and deciding he wasn't all that great really.

'M' was Mexico and mariachi bands and teasing him about Antonio Banderes being hot, and kissing in the shower and not being able to blame it on the heat.

'N' was New Zealand without civilisation, running on untouched beaches and making the first sandcastle in the world.

'O' was a little country called Oman, because the TARDIS landed in the wrong place again.

'P' was Peru and llamas and more laughing because no matter what he did, he couldn't seem to stop getting spat on by the llamas.

'Q' was Quebec, which she complained wasn't exactly a country, and he retorted that he didn't care.

'R' was Russia at the height of the Tsars' power, and a sleigh ride through a snow-covered land that glittered, and she said it was beautiful but he said she was more so.

'S' was Switzerland because he wanted a new cuckoo clock. She ate chocolate and had pretensions of Maria.

'T' was Thailand and interesting food that made her want to learn how to cook, and pandas that made her laugh in delight.

'U' was the US and Universal Studios and he complaining every step of the way until she kissed him on the ET ride and said she always got scared watching that film as a child.

'V' was the Vatican City and watching Michelangelo painting the ceiling. She said it was like watching paint dry, and he told her she knew nothing about good culture.

'W' was Washington because, he said with a hint of dejection, there wasn't a country beginning with W, and Washington was a better state than the others.

'X' was staying in the TARDIS and kissing in the garden.

'Y' was Yemen in the mid twenty-second century, and buying tacky jewellery in the market and kissing him in the back alley by the TARDIS.

'Z' was Zimbabwe and stopping yet another alien from its destruction of Earth, but she didn't care because she was with him.
