A/N: . I'm going to update my other story soon. I'm having major writers block right now. Also, the timeline for Kate's trial is off, but it'll mess up my timeline for the story, just clearing that up.

Prison Break

Jack sighed. He had found it ironic how many time on the island he had wished to go back into civilization, and now that he that was here, and he wanted nothing more to go back. To the island. To her.

The look on her face when the boat came on the horizon broke Jack's heart. The last he saw of her was the handcuffs being snapped on, and being her dragged away. In the hospital in Australia, a guard stood in font of her door 24/7, preventing anyone from coming in. It prevented Jack from hearing her, feeling her touch, seeing her eyes light up they way only he could make them.

He didn't think it was fair. Nothing was fair, he decided. Nothing.

In the two years they had been stuck on the island, she had finally confessed the horrible crime that she hadn't committed. From their on their relationship was different. Knowing Kate's crime put perspective on things. He couldn't tell if the change was for the better or for the worse until they got off the island. Only then did he know it was for the better.

Once off the island and back to real life, Jack tried to forget about all that he had known for the past two years. He refused to do news interviews, and stopped watching the news and reading the newspaper. He didn't want to hear about it. About how he was a hero. How he saved them all. Because he didn't. He didn't save her.

So it was a stroke up luck when he turned on his TV nearly 2 months after being rescued.

" Kate Austin, the criminal who was rescued from the plane crash of Oceanic Flight 815 on April 8th, has been found not guilty...". Jack smiled to himself when he heard the news. The first real smile he had had in 8 weeks.

It had been 2 weeks since he had turned on the TV that day. He wondered where she was, if she was okay, all the things he had worried about constantly on the island. Only this time he wouldn't be seeing her in a few minutes or a few hours.

His thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on his apartment door. He got and up and slowly opened the door.

"Hey"

The second real smile since getting rescued

"Hey"
