Polyphemus

When the young Dawn with fingertips of rose

Appeared in the East,

At last it was time to arise from my sleep.

The pink of the skies, amazing.

The bleating from the pens, familiar.

Everyday trite and comforting, though I thought today wouldn't be much different.

I returned from my diurnal ventures:

A fire inside, blazing, when- Alas!- it is man, I see.

Friend? Foe? It is an answer that was given to me later on in this episode.

Minute beings, foreign to my eye. Differing greatly from the ewes, sheep, and goats that I am used to.

I was not quite sure about whether trust was the smartest decision at that moment.

The bravest one approached, preaching about

Zeus and gods and other foolish ramblings.

"'Strangers,' I said, 'who are you? And where from?

What brings you here by sea ways-a fair traffic?

Or are you wandering rogues, who cast your lives

Like dice, and ravage other folk by sea?'" pg 902, 156-159

What a fool I was, I now know.

Believing what is false is not the feature I am most proud of,

But it drowns me with regret, for the stranger answered

With naught the truth, and naught but lie after lie.

'I have no ship' is basically what he implied.

With the return of the young Dawn with fingertips of rose

I found myself in the day of utmost hell.

I know now that that showing no pity was absolutely

The most brightest flame in a dozen fires.

Little knowledge, had I

That the minuscule creatures would spell out danger.

D-A-N-G-E-R.

'ARGH,' was my cry of pain, while only one thought ran through my mind:

'The apocalypse!'

The last thing I remembered was the drink of the gods,

A few sips which mutated into more than that, becoming a myriad sips

Of the drinks of heaven.

Yet, there I was, stick in eye, and I was blinded - with rage as well.

'Cyclops, try some wine.' he said.

Polyphemus, you are a foolish, foolish bastard.

'…My name is Nohbdy,' said the brave heart.

Fool. I curse thee.

He deceived me into calling for help, yet 'Nohbdy's tricked me, Nohbdy's ruined me!'

My friends wouldn't understand. To them, I deserved the gore.

Ergo, I cursed him.

I watched as his ship accepted the curse I deposited onto the accursed human byproducts.

'I have no ship' is basically what he implied.

Liar.
