Wars are, of course, as a rule to be avoided; but they are far better than certain kinds of peace.—

((Donny's POV))

"Okay, a little more to the left this time and let it go."

The men scramble everywhere as they set up the catapult. Some men move the catapult into place then the other men roll a giant rock onto the platform.

"CLEAR!"

The men scramble away from the catapult as a man launch the giant rock into the air. The rock was flying through the air and crash onto several dummies in the middle of the field. To my delight, I got to build and see a real catapult in action. That is something I would never see in New York or something I would build a miniature in my shop. It was amazing to watch a giant rock fly through the air and land several feet away. As I watch the men scramble to replace the broken down dummies with a fresh set of dummies, I cannot help but hear the whispers in the back of my mind telling me in a few hours that those dummies will be replaces with real people. That part scares me. These villagers are innocent. I worry how this will affect them. They have never taken a human life before. They have never seen war before.

Yet, I know there is no choice. If they do nothing, they will be destroyed by a ruthless enemy. An enemy that would destroy their homes, takes their wives and children, and killing them without a second thought. It almost strikes me as a parallel to our lives. We had no choice but defend ourselves against the Foot. It was either us or them but it doesn't stop the knots forming in my stomach. It doesn't stop the guilt of taking their lives even in self defense.

I shake my head out these awful thoughts as the men turn their attention to me.

"That was great. Let try the light rocks this time."

I watch the men scramble again as they set up the catapult again. My thoughts drift again to the fact that when we are long gone. What will happen to the village? Will everything be alright? It is frustrating that with all of my knowledge, I just don't have the answers to those questions. The fact I do know is that we have mark them for better or worse. We have changes their fates and their lives forever.

I just wish there was another way but there isn't.
