Author's Intro: Hello, and this is my first fic, I have a feeling it's not going to be long and that the updates are going to be few and with large hiatuses, but I'm finally getting off my lazy bum and trying my hand a writing fanfics instead of just reading them! Anyway, I figured this story could take place right when Kenshin joins up to fight in the revolution, and will go up until the middle of his assassin day's. This probably will be full of fight scenes, lots of analogies, psychology, and a little sorrow mixed in (bad combination for a first fic, but what the heck).

Anyway, I do not own Rurouni Kenshin in any way whatsoever.

Cold As Steel--Prologue

"Have you ever felt the blade of a sword? It's cold and heavy, obviously. After all, it is made of metal. But that coldness isn't just about what the sword is made of, or the weight. What you are holding in your hands is something elegant & beautiful, but something made with one soul purpose, to kill. A sword is more than a weapon, and what the sword does depends entirely upon the user, but it doesn't change that simple fact, a sword is designed to kill. The first time I picked up a sword, I wanted to use it to protect the people who had cared for and helped me. That's all I wanted, only to protect them. I couldn't, they were killed instead of me. Afterward I took up the sword and learned it's techniques, so I wouldn't have to see someone die again, but that all changed. All it took was a revolution that I felt needed me,a couplewell-spoken words by their leader, some resolve on my part, and my purpose changed. From then on I felt only the cold and the heaviness inside of me, and the purpose of the sword became my purpose. Everything was so cold, and I soon was numb…"

Author's Notes: Yea, sorry about the fact that this chapter has no dialogue, plot, fight scenes, yatta yatta, or even a decent length. This is the prologue, I am just trying to get a rhythm for the story, but I promise you, the next chapter will actually have a plot, dialogue, and all that good stuff. If you're interested on how this is going, please, review. If not, flame away.
