Disclaimer: Hey, I don't own Harry Potter. Don't sue me, you won't get nothin. This disclaimer counts for the whole story.

Author's Note: I hope you enjoy this story. I have a few more chapters waiting to be typed up if you review on this one.

Lily Evans stood in front of the full length mirror in her room. What she saw was a rather tall girl with shoulder length red hair and almond-shaped green eyes. She was wearing her favourite t-shirt (the one blue one with the cats on it that she'd had forever but was still somehow too big) and a comfortably worn pair of blue jeans. She was also wearing an old pair of trainers that were a nice shade of used-to-be-white. Lily held up the Head-Girl badge she'd received that year, she considered putting it on but thought better of it.

'Lily, hurry up, dear, you'll miss your train!' Lily's mother, Elizabeth Evans's, warm voice floated up the stairwell. Lily checked her watch and saw that it was already 10:48.

'I'll be right down, Mum.' she called grabbing the handle of her trunk and starting to drag it out of her room.

What am I thinking! She wondered, stopping short. Lily pulled out her wand and tapped the trunk, 'Wingardium Leviosa'. It floated up a few inches into the air and Lily proceeded to direct it to the stairs where she almost bumped into none other than Petunia, her older sister, who was apparently not accompanying them as to the fact that she still bore her pyjamas.

'Watch it, Freak.' she said, eyeing the trunk apprehensively. 'Don't you dare hit me with that, either.'

'I wasn't going to anyways.' said Lily, bringing the trunk up higher to be sure it wouldn't so much as graze her sister's blond head.

'Right.' said Petunia, edging up to the top of the stairs. 'Just hurry up and get out of here. I don't want Vernon to see you.'

Lily continued down the stairs. 'Is he coming over?' she asked, reaching the bottom stair and hopping off it lightly.

'At 11.' said Petunia, heading back towards her room. 'You'll be gone by then, won't you?'

'Yes.' said Lily, opening the front door and starting out to the car.

'Did you have breakfast, Lily?' asked Mrs. Evans, emerging from the kitchen.

'No, I'll get something on the train.' Lily did not want breakfast that day, she was far too nervous to eat. Worries flew around her head like so many caged birds and it was all she could do not to scream.

'Are you sure?' asked her mother. 'We do have pancakes if you want them.'

'No, I'm fine.' Lily continued on her way out, her mother followed reluctantly.

The drive to the station was short and awkward. As they pulled in Lily turned and saw her mother was crying, only just a bit. Lily wondered how she couldn't have noticed. 'Are you o.k., Mum?' she asked awkwardly.

'Yes, I'm fine. It is just that it seems like you have grown up so quickly. And I won't see you now for a whole year and by then you will doubtless be ready to move out on your own, like Petunia is with Vernon…and…I will miss you, Lily.'

'It'll be alright, Mum.' said Lily, not quite sure she sounded reassuring. 'I'll come home during the holidays and write as often as I can.'

Mrs. Evans smiled 'Have fun, alright?'

Lily smiled 'Bye, Mum.'

'See you soon, Lily.'

Lily took her things out of the car and found a trolley, but no sooner had she gotten on to the platform than did she hear the voice she had so desperately wanted to avoid for only just a few more minutes.

'Oy, Evans!'

Author's note: And there we stop. Tell me how you like it and I'll type up another chapter. ☺
