The Marauders Go Crazy From Being Bored
"I'm going crazy from being bored." James pronounced in the middle of a study session with Remus and Sirius, which wasn't uncommon, because they actually weren't doing much studying.
"O.W.L's are next week," Remus muttered, nothing looking up from his long parchment of counter curses.
"I don't care," exclaimed James, "I want to play!" He bounced up and down on his chair, even though Sirius had taken away his candy.
"James, mate, I think Remus might have a point this time." Sirius said, resting a hand on James' shoulder. "On the other hand…I could go for some ice cream." Sirius grinned. The prospect of returning to normalcy looked dim for Remus.
"And where exactly are we going to get ice cream?" Remus inquired. "And if we are going to do this, we might as well be considerate and get Peter something."
"Yeah, poor bloke's sick," James said, as if this were new information. Actually, it was just a clever device to get the plot rolling.
"He wouldn't want ice cream, though, he has a cold." Sirius reasoned, which was peculiar for him.
"We could get him some chicken soup," Remus suggested.
A silence followed in which James and Sirius looked at him very strangely.
"Chicken…soup?" James repeated slowly.
"I guess it's a muggle thing. It's a broth with noodles and pieces of cooked chicken in it, and very warm. It's supposed to be good for colds," Remus explained.
"Who would want to put chunks of meat into liquid and then slurp it up?" Sirius asked.
"Well, when you put it that way…"
"Okay, enough of this," James interrupted. " I'm still bored, and I still want ice cream. I know for a fact they have gallons of it in the kitchen downstairs." And with that, he leaped from his seat, strode over to the painting, hopped out and starting galloping out the stairs. Remus and Sirius quickly pursued, and ended up having to go to sleep with James talking all night and jumping on his bed.
