Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I own nothing. Just borrowing them, though I'd
love to own Chad. He's uber-hot! Anyway, all the chapters are told from the
girls' POVs. They'll change every chapter. Here we go...
Brooke's POV:
I can't believe that this happened. I honestly never saw this as a possibility. I mean, come on. Nathan can be a complete ass sometimes, but never like this. And never with Hales. I thought he loved her. Guess not. This is all my fault. Haley told me that she didn't wanna go last night. I should have listened. But did I? No. I never do. It's weird. If this had happened a month ago, I would have been sad, of course, but it wouldn't be ripping my heart to pieces like it is now. After I found out about Lucas and Peyton, I had no one left. Then Hales came along. I'll never understand why she did it. I had always been such a bitch to her. That's one of the things I love about her. She'll do anything to make someone feel better even if that person is evil. To her, a person in pain is a person who needs a friend. She's right. I never would've been able to survive the last month without Peyton if it hadn't have been for her. Peyton has always been my one and only best friend through my whole life and even though we aren't talking right now, she still is my best friend. But I think Hales is getting up there too. Maybe she already is my best friend. I don't know. You can have two best friends can't you? Not that it matters anymore. After last night, I don't see how she could ever even consider me a best friend. If I hadn't have forced her to go, this wouldn't have happened. Would it? Nathan could have always just gone over to her house and done it. I just don't know anymore. The only things I'm sure of are that I hate Nathan, I love Haley and I'm not too sure about myself right now.

"Go on, Hales," I urged her. She glared at me and gave me a pleaded look to get her out of going with Nathan. I shrugged my shoulders, grabbed Jake's hand and walked over to the refreshment table to get a drink. I glanced over my shoulder and gave Haley a wink and smile before Nathan led her away. She gives me this scared look that I don't know how to take, I brush it off and turn my attention to Jake.
"So, Brooke," he began. "You and Peyton still fighting over what happened with Luke?" I gave him an annoyed look, but answered the question never the less.
"Yeah," I sighed. "I really miss her, Jake. Every time I look at the phone I have to force myself to not pick it up and call her. After what happened, I decided that she needs to call me. If she wants to be friends she needs to apologize to me."
"The balls in her court," Jake summarized. I nodded and took a sip of my drink. "What happens when she does?"
"What do you mean?" I asked for clarification. I don't always really understand where this guy comes from.
"With you and Haley," he answered. I arched my perfectly plucked eyebrows at the statement. "I mean, you guys just started hanging after you and Peyton hit the drama button. After you guys make up, are you just gonna ignore her again?" I never thought of that. What would happen between us if I started hanging out with Peyton again? Would I be able to split the time between the two?
"Of course not," I decided. "Hales has been like my lifeline over the past month. I would never just cut her out like that. Besides, she's really good friends with Peyton too, so we could all hang out together."
"Well that's good," he nodded and took a few chips out off the bowl. I gave him a questioning look. "What?" he asked with a mouth full of chips.
"Why are you so interested in mine and Hales relationship all of a sudden?" He gives me a dear-caught-in- headlights look. Busted. What's he up to? "Who are you working for?" He looks like he's about to try to get out of it, so I give him a stern look before he can say anything. "You suck at lying," I remind him. He sighs.
"Haley was babysitting Jenny the other night and we got to taking," he starts to explain. "She started talking about you and Peyton's drama and how she was trying to get you guys back together." He paused and looked down. "She started to cry and was worried that if she did get you guys to be friends again that she would lose her two best friends. And after everything that happened between her and Luke..."
"Oh man," I sighed. How could I not have seen it? She didn't just come to me cause I lost my best friend, but because she lost her best friend too. After Peyton broke things off with Luke, he got really distant. He met some girl and they just left town. The only person who ever hears from him still is Karen and she promised him not to tell anyone where he was.
"Yeah, she having some abandonment issues," he informed me. I dropped my head and handed him my drink.
"I guess I better go find her and reassure her, huh?" He gave me a sad smile and nodded his head. I gave him a quick thank you hug and went in the direction Haley and Nathan had gone in.
"Hey!" Jake called after me. I turned around and saw him running up to me. "You won't tell her I said anything, will you? She made me promise. I was just worried about her. She was just starting to get out of her funk from when Luke left and I think a lot of that has to do with you. I don't think anyone wants to see her fall back into it."
"I understand," I assured him. "This conversation never happened." He gave me a thankful smile and I continued on my journey. I ran into Tim standing with a girl outside a bedroom. "Hey, did you see Nathan and Haley around here?"
"Oh, yeah," he nodded and motioned towards a closed bedroom door. "He took her in there like five minutes ago," he answered with a sick smirk. "Sounds like he's finally getting some, too." He cheered and noticed that there wasn't anything left in his cup. "Come on, baby. Let's go get something to drink." The girl nodded and he led her to the drinks. The girl looked over her shoulder and gave me a worried look and then glanced towards the bedroom that Nathan and Haley were supposedly in. Tim noticed her looking at me so she quickly ignored me and gave him her full attention. What was that about? I turned back to find Jake giving me a questioning look. I shrugged my shoulders and knocked on the door. No answer. I leaned my head against it to listen. I heard a soft cry. That sounded like Haley! I gave Jake a horrified look and whipped open the door to find Nathan on top of Haley. He had her arms trapped above her head and she had her eyes squeezed shut. Neither seemed to notice my presence.
"Oh, God," I cried. Nathan whipped his head towards me when he heard me.
"Get the hell out of here!" he screamed as he got off of Haley. He buttoned up his pants and quickly made his way towards me. I can't move. I'm in complete shock. Nathan grabs my arm and brings his hand up to hit me when Jake grabs his arm and punches him square in the face. Nathan quickly dives at him and they bring the fight out into the hall where everyone can watch. I stand there for another second before I hear Haley sob and I run towards her. I drop to my knees beside her.
"Hales?" I whisper to her to make sure she's okay. Of course she not okay! I look her up and down to make sure she's not in any immediate danger. I notice that her pants are ripped and in pieces on the floor. I quickly take off my jacket and put it over her lower half before everyone comes in to see what happened. She reaches out to me and I get on the bed and take her in my arms as she cries. The girl Tim was with pops her head in the room to see if everything was okay. She looks at the two of us and knows that she was right before. I can hear the sounds of people yelling as Jake and Nathan continue to fight. "Call an ambulance."
"It's already on the way," she mutters as she makes her way into the room. She has something in her hands, but I can't see what it is. "Pants. Rachel gave them to me. It's her house," she explains. I nod at her and she puts them on the bed. She senses that we need to be alone and closes the door on the way out. I try to move out of Haley's embrace, but she holds on tight.
"I just want to put some pants on you, sweetie," I explain. She seems to understand and lets me go. I move down and carefully put the pants on her. I'm just buttoning them up when the paramedic knock on the door. Before I can even say anything they rush in and take her away. "Wait, I'm coming with her." One of the paramedics turns to me.
"I'm sorry miss, but you can't ride with us," he informs me. "You'll have to get a ride with someone else. Just follow us to the hospital and you can see your friend there." I nod absently and he walks out. As he's leaving the room, Jake walks in.
"I'll drive you," he tells me, before I can even ask him. I look up at him and he has a black eye and a bleeding nose. I'm sure Nathan looks worse. He takes my arm and starts to lead me towards his car. On our way out we walk past Nathan, who is getting handcuffed. I motion for Jake to let me go and I stalk over to Nathan. A cop tried to stop me, but I just pushed him out of the way and stood in front of Nathan. Without saying a word, I slapped him. He looked me in the eyes and I didn't see any regret in them. A tear ran town my face as I turned around and went back to Jake's side. When we get to his car I stopped and pulled out my phone.
"I have to call Peyton," I stated and he nodded and got in his car to wait for me. I dialed my best friend's number and waited for her to answer. I know she'll answer because if I was calling, she'll know it's important. Finally, after like ten rings, she answered.
"Hello?" she answered. I froze when I heard her voice. I haven't talked to her in a month. "Brooke?"
"Peyton?" I asked, wanting to make sure it was her. "Come down to the hospital."
"Are you okay?" she demands. I have to smile sadly. After all this time, she still cares. That's sweet.
"Yeah. No. Not really," I answer. How can I be okay? I'll never be okay again.
"Brooke, what happened?" she asked and I can tell that she's scared to death. Ever since her mom died, she's been terrified of losing someone else. "Who's in the hospital?" I almost break down when she asks me this because I know it will kill her.
"It's Hales," I cry and I can hear her hit something. "I made her go to this basketball thing with Nathan. She said she didn't want to go cause he was being an ass lately. She really didn't wanna go, but I made her." I took a deep breath before I said the next part. "He raped her, Peyton. He wanted some, she said no, and he raped her!" I could hear her dad asking her something. But she didn't answer him. After what seemed think forever, she spoke.
"I'm on my way," she informs me, before she hangs up. I could tell that she was crying. I hung up my phone, put it in my purse and got in the car. Jake didn't say anything as he drove off. The ride was made in silence. All I could think about was the look on Haley's face as Nathan forced himself into her. I don't think I'll ever get that sight out of my head. I just hope my best friend can help me get through it.
