Clark Kent stared out the window of his loft, his arm loosely dangling over his telescope.
His eyes were directed to one specific farm house. One that he didn't need his telescope to look at anymore.
He sighed at turned his back to the window before collapsing on the nearby couch.
"Another pity party? God, Smallville. You gotta learn to lighten up and have a little fun."
Lois. Yay. Not.
"Lois," he mumbled, face down in the couch, "What are you doing up here? Trying to make me worse?
"It's Lana, isn't it?"
Clark groaned.
Lois grinned. "Boy, am I psychic or what?"
She walked over to the window and stared out, her eyes landing on the same spot as Clark's.
"Ya know, if it's worth anything, I don't think you're really in love with her."
"How would you know?"
"Chloe once told me a story. I was struggling with what love was at the time. I still am. But she made me understand what it was more than I've ever understood it."
"So what's the story?" Clark asked sitting up.
"There was this guy and this girl...we'll say the girl represents roses, ok? They both loved each other and so one day the boy asked her to marry him, but she said before she could say yes, he had to have her father's permission. So he went to ask him, but the father said on one condition could they marry each other - if the boy worked in the father's maffia. So those are the thorns on the rose. But, out of love for the girl, he agreed to work in the maffia. That's what love is, Clark. Being for there for someone when they need you the most."
"I'm always there for Lana."
"Not from what I've heard. You've always saved her from certain death, but you've never been there emotionally for her. You've been there physically for her, but not emotionally. That's your problem. I don't even think you know how. You've dodged it for so long, you've forgotten how."
Silence.
"Ya know, Lois, that kinda sounds like you. Your dad's like the thorns."
"So you're in love with me?"
Silence.
"OH, GOD NO! What was I thinking saying that! I'd wear tights and a cape before marrying you!"
"Sure, Smallville. Whatever you say."
Clark groaned and collapsed back onto the couch.
Lois smirked and walked started to walk back down the stairs.
"Lois?"
Clark's voice came from behind her just a few steps.
She turned. "Yeah?"
"Just so you know, it wouldn't be so bad. You know, married to you. In love with you."
Lois cocked her head to the side, trying to see if he was playing her.
Coming to the conclusion that he wasn't, she smiled and said, "Thanks, Smallville. You too."
She turned and walked down the stairs, leaving Clark on his own.
