Title: Understanding

Author: Still Waters

Oh boy. I never thought I'd ever be writing a piece from Yoda's point of view. He is so iconic, such an enigma of the Force and the Jedi, that I never felt I'd understand him enough to give him proper voice. Well, he apparently had other plans. This literally came out of nowhere while I was sitting down by the beach this morning surrounded by gray skies, rough waves and the promise of a storm soon to come. I suddenly had Yoda telling me that he chose Obi-Wan to go after Anakin at the end of ROTS for a reason – more so than just the fact that he Obi-Wan were apparently the only Jedi left. Yoda is so in tune with the Force, it is his life, and I suddenly felt that he knew something...felt something through that connection, and although he maybe couldn't give voice to it, he knew that Darth Vader had a role later on. The prophecy may have been misread or it may just not have been read deeply enough. So, with Yoda insisting that he was simply obeying the will of the Force, I wrote this. I truly hope I do it some credit.

Disclaimer: Star Wars does not belong to me – I'm only borrowing the characters to tell their stories.

Wise is young Obi-Wan, but understand why I did what I did, he does not

Young he still is

His betrayal I feel still though the Force, though hide it, release it, he tries

Not only the betrayal of young Skywalker, but mine also

Believes me heartless he does

Send him to kill his former apprentice I did not

Knew I did he would not

Presume to understand the Force, I do not – I will not

But some part to play, Skywalker still has

Given my life to the Force, I have - serve it I will

For each belief shattered, one step closer to understanding we reach

Though understand I do not, the Force is clear - Skywalker, Vader, must live

This is why young Obi-Wan I sent

Strong in the Force he is, wise, skillful, compassionate

For hundreds of years instructed Jedi I have, to release attachments - attachment leads to anger, jealousy...

...For Obi-Wan, compassion

Wiser than the Jedi code the Force is

Chose him his compassion did

... "I will not kill Anakin...He is like my brother, I cannot do it"

And so send him I did

For kill Anakin I knew he would not

For kill his brother, the Force knew he would not
