Chapter 4: The Company.
AN: I'm so sorry this took so long, but I was in California on my trip. It was fun, but I missed all you guys. Can you forgive me? Of course you can. Now, on with the fic.
Joanna awoke the next morning alone. She put on a robe and went ot the kitchen. She fixed herself her customary cup of coffee and sat down to review their cover story. Mr and Mrs Kevin Riley. Married two years, graduates from Harvard, working in the research and development section of the Carrington Institute. Well, the Institute part was right, more or less.
Jonathan came in, holding the small envelope with their plane tickets in his right hand.
They got dressed, silently and went off to the airport.
The plane arrived in Moscow Airport an about four hours, where they began the second leg of the journey, in the BMW to the remote location of Interplex in the Siberian plateau.
While they travelled through the grey skies,Joanna tried to recall the history of this place. Back in the late 1990's, a radar station was stationed here, until it was destroyed by a renegade Soviet general working for an international crime syndicate. The installation was destroyed by the same space weapon it was secretly working on, codenamed GoldenEye.
Ironic, really. An old space weapon thwarted on the same snow that they were about to embark on to save the world again.
She then looked out onto the plateau. The satelite dish was back up, only with a larger base, as well as several cabins and sniper towers, all the inhabitants probably crack shots.
The blue hovercar came into the small compund where the veichles were kept. Joanna nad Jonathan got out and moved to the trunk.
"Mr. and Mrs. Riley?" A voice came from behind them.
They both turned to see a large Russian, clean shaven and clad in a dark bodysuit. "I am Vlodnikov, head of security. Comrade Dr. De Vries has been expecting you. If you will follow me. The porters will see to your bags."
They followed Vlodnikov out of the car park. Joanna noticed the CMP150 at his hip as well as a sidearm. A Glock 126, built along the lines of a Beretta. It was like a small MagSec 4 almost.
They entered a large office complex and Vlodnikov pushed aside the twin double doors to reveal a large office with an extremely messy desk in the center with a man at the phone. He signalled for one minute.
"OK, Clive. Just get that order for me.Bye." He hung up.
"Mr and Mrs. Riley to see you, Comrade Doctor." Vlodnikov said,
"Thank you." The man got up. "Welcome to Interplex. I'm Lawrence De Vries. Please have a seat."
Joanna and Jonathan accepted the offer and rested their feet.
"Can I get you anyting?" De Vries asked. "Coffee, tea or something with a little more of a punch?"
"No thanks." Jonathan said. Joanna's eyebrows raised. His accent had improved.
"Now," De Vries relaxed in his chair. "What can I do for you?"
"Well, we represent the Carrington Institute." Jonathan said. "We are interested in your technology and exploartional divisions."
"Well, I see that your boss is covering my back." De Vries grinned. "Well, I suppose you'll be here for a while so I'll give you the grand tour."
They lef the pristine office space to a dark, subterreanean cave with cables and lights overhead like you'd find in the basements of most hospitals.
De Vries inserted a keycard into a slot by a large door. It opened, revealling the labs to them.
End of Chapter.
Sorry about the cliffhanger, but I'll be back. Now, review time.
