Chapter 6: The connection.

AN: Yes, I'm back. I would have updated sooner, but the Internet was down at my school and I've been distracted (There's a girl at my school named Gillian who's almost a dead ringer of Joanna! I'm into her yes, but enough of that.). But now I'm back! YAY! Also, switch your settings on the top bar just under the site banner from G-PG-13 to All. You'll find a crossover fan fic of mine for PD rated R that I think you'll enjoy titled The Good, The Bad And The Dead. You'll probably like it if you like the combat simulator. I will be updating on it, yes. Also, it's been a while since I played PD. I've been cutting my teeth on our new Gamecube, so… With that in mid, I can't wait for Perfect Dark Zero to come out! But enough of that. On with the story.

The BMW maintained a steady climb up in the atmosphere. Jonathan had the wheel and kept biting his lower lip. Joanna knew him well enough to know that something was wrong.

"What is it?" She asked.

"I'm not to sure about those satellites he's been sending up." Jonathan said. "Why don't we take a closer look?"

Seems reasonable." Joanna said.

Jonathan hit a small button on the dash and the car unfolded into a small sub-orbital craft and took off for a higher altitude.

Within minutes, they had reached the upper stratosphere and saw the whole world from orbit. It never failed to impress Joanna. It was so beautiful.

Jonathan hit another small button that activated the cloaking device. It would be too dangerous for them to be seen. He peered at one of the satellites up ahead. It was an Interplex one. But something on it caught his eye. It was the same model as the one they saw go up, but…

"Rather heavily armed for an exploration satellite." Jonathan said and pointed out the many heavy cannons and automatic weapons on the main body.

"Mainly navigational deflectors." Joanna said, remembering what De Vries had said. "Right."

Jonathan flicked on a small button and the computer inside the car had begun to scan the satellite. This was one of hundreds of identical satellites. What were they here for, none of them knew.

He relaxed in his chair.

"Scan shouldn't take too long." He said. "What we do till it's done, I don't know."

Joanna smiled and leaned forward. She kissed him deeply, holding him close. Jonathan put his hand on Joanna's right breast. The peak was hard with desire.

Neither of them knew they were being monitored. In the operations center of the satellite, one of the men was monitoring the scanner. There was one small thing that was very odd. It was a small energy distortion, very close.

"Sir." He called.

His CO came down to look at what was going on. "What?"

"There's a small energy distortion bearing 489 mark 2." The officer said. "Range, 4 kilometers."

The CO thought. He had seen something like this. "Enough energy to hide something?"

"A cloaking device." The officer said.

The CO got on the intercom and called out throughout the satellite. There was a small crew of 50. All of them needed to be ready. "Red alert! Man your battle stations."

The klaxons began to wail throughout the satellite as the crew scrambled to battle readiness. The CO gave the order to deploy a team of sentinels. They were small, armed and armored one-man fighters (Sorta like the TIE fighters in Star Wars.)

Joanna and Jon were still lip locked when the proximity alarm sounded inside the car. The sentinels were closing in.

Jon took control and got the shields up just as a high intensity blast rocked the car. The shields were damaged, but it was negligible. He took the manual target and opened fire with the automatic weapons. They used the same caliber of ammunition as the weapon known to the Institute as an AR53 (Those of you who know of it I'm assuming also know it's GoldenEye's AR33, which in turn is an M16.) Two of the fighters exploded as Joanna crawled in the back and charged up the plasma cannon. The console came up out of the seat and the emitter was in the tail end.

Jonathan took the BMW down back to Earth in at a steep angle. They cleared the atmosphere in a matter of minutes. They were over the Siberian mountain range and streaking along as fast as the BMW would go, the sentinels right on their tail.

A buzz sounded, signaling that the rear shields were gone.

"Sorry, Jon." Joanna said as she gripped a lever by the driver's seat.

Jonathan gave her a shocked look as she pulled it, activating the ejector seat. He flew out and into safety. Before Joanna could take the wheel, a blast sent the car careening down to crash in a small clearing.

Vlodnikov and his men came out to the scene, heavily armed. The guards with F19 Ravens, an improvement on the old K7 Avenger and Vlodnikov armed with a heavy Stetchkin machine pistol. The BMW was in a fiery mess, but there was no trace of a body.

Joanna crept in the nearby foliage, the ASP and the Falcon 2 with several grenades at the ready.

She attacked, taking both guns in each hand after lobbing a grenade. She sidestepped around the cover firing the guns.

Vlodnikov came up behind her and clubbed her in the back of the head with his Stetchkin. She fell unconscious almost instantly.

Jonathan came to the sound of a jet engine. An Institute jumpship was coming down. It was then he remembered that most Institute equipment had an automated distress signal in them. The chair was probably no different.

Velvet met him at the door.

"Jon." She said, seeming very worried. "What happened? Where's Jo?"

Jonathan merely shook his head. He had let her down. She was probably dead, dying or taken captive. He knew all agents had a suicide pill in the event they were captured and tortured. He knew that he would never see his wife alive again. For the first time since he was two, he wept.

End of Chapter.

Interesting, eh? Don't worry. I'll update soon. Now it's your turn. Review please!
