THE SCARE

By Kitbitz

Bridger´s POW.

I´m finally calmed enough so Kristen let me enter the infirmary and go to sit with Lucas.

She said he would be waking up soon and I really don´t want him to wake up alone.

I quietly walk beside his bed and sit down in the chair that has thoughtfully left there. When I take a look at his pale face I´m suddenly impossibly mad at his father. How could someone send his only child away?

That thought never even crossed my mind when Robert was young, even thought he was difficult child.

I called his father earlier, when Kristen was treating him, first I only got so far as his secretary. She was annoyed when I insisted that his father should be informed what had happened, well she finally put me through to him and what does his father? He didn´t even ask if Lucas was okay! He just asked me not to interrupt his work something so minor. I can't believe that he just dismissed Lucas like that.

I have known Lucas just over six months and I can´t think of a reason that anyone wouldn´t want to spend time with him. He is really shy and incredibly smart. He tries to hide it by being rude. I know he can be annoying like hell and he does stupid practical jokes. But who in his age wouldn´t.

I know he has made friends with Ben Krieg and I don´t know if I should be happy or worried about that.

My thought´s wander back at the bridge and what happened there. I was so scared when Lucas got that major electric shock run through him. We were loosing power of our whiskers and Lucas happened to be there and offered to take a look of what was wrong.

It didn´t take him long to notice the virus that was stealing the power off from the whiskers. He got the virus out easily and then suddenly there was this electric current that went through the whole console and straight in to Lucas. Sparks flied everywhere and the computer got friend completely.

Lucas was really lucky he didn´t hit his head on anything when he landed. I remember being there in an instant and yelling that somebody should call doctor Westphalen.

Lucas has been this whole time unconscious and that worries me but Kristen says that it is normal after that kind of shock to the body. I know that the senior crew is worried for our young genius too; I have heard the call´s that Kristen has taken in her office.

As I sit here by Lucas´s bed waiting him to wake, the thought of little downtime in my island comes in my mind. Maybe it´s a time for an unscheduled shore leave, I´m sure I can manage something.

Taking Lucas with me in my island has crossed on my mind many times before but I have never had the courage to ask him. I suspect that when ever he goes home there is nobody there for him. That thought makes me angry again, if the decision were mine to make I would never send him home on our shore leaves.

My silent thoughts stops when Lucas changes his position on the bed, finally he´s waking up. A pair of blue eyes open and look at me in confusion. He takes in his surroundings and then looks back at me. He seems little confused so I tell him why he is here. He just nods and then look of apprehension is creeping across his face.

I´m momentarily confused, what´s going on in that head of his. Then it strikes me; he is waiting me to reprimand him. Anger get´s me again, I quickly let it go so that Lucas doesn´t notice. That shore leave sounds really good to me and I think Bill owns me a few favors.
