Kai slipped into the hall at the front of the house. Around him was complete darkness. He waited for a moment for his eyes to become accustomed to the light. He slipped into the first door he came to knowing it was the lounge. He stopped, to catch his breath, and I light turned on as the swivel backed chair turned to face him.
"Kai, it's 3 in the morning you have some explaining to do." The brunette stated.
"And why, Hilary, are you up?" Kai retorted accusingly.
"To check that you are in fact still alive." Hilary replied, "No one has seen you all day. Where were you?"
"Out" Kai replied gruffly.
"This wouldn't have something to do with your fight with Tyson would it?"
"What if it did Hilary?" Kai's voice raised in volume. "What if I stayed out all day because I did something dumb and one of my friends had to pay for it? Huh?" Hilary looked shocked and Kai sighed, "Sorry. I did it again, didn't I?"
"Yes. Kai what happened that made you like this?" Hilary asked recovering slightly.
"It doesn't matter."
"It obviously does, if your team has to pay every time you have a temper tantrum."
"Fine" Kai spat. He stood in the centre of the room trying to think of where to begin. He couldn't blame everything on the abbey. He was like this before he went in, before he had lost his mother. He could feel the tears sting his eyes and he became quite quiet. "I never thought about it but…"
"Yes…" Hilary waved her hand to show his interest.
"Why do you want to know anyway? Why does it matter?"
"Because every day, you beat the crap out of Max or Tyson. Because every day you shout as though we're members of an army rather than a Beyblading team." Hilary was getting more and more sure she'd get an answer out of Kai.
"I guess it… it all began when… when my parents split up. This is stupid."
"No it's not"
"Is"
"Is not and get on with telling it, it's interesting."
Kai mumbled something in Russian under his breath and continued talking "Being passed from house to house never made anyone feel like they were wanted it made them feel more like a piece of baggage." Kai laughed nervously, leaning on the small coffee table beside him, "my parents never agreed and their new partners disagreed with their old partners, I felt like I was being pushed towards being nasty to my own family the ones who I was related to by blood." Kai sighed remembering every insult he threw at his mother. A single tear ran down his cheek, Hilary put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
She smiled at him and he looked away. "Kai bottling things up never helps."
"That was my problem! I bottled up everything and now, now whenever I get mad the bottle overflows, I go crazy, I lose control, I hurt my friends, my family. Damn it I even hurt Dranzer." Kai's limbs could no longer support his weight and he sank to the floor slowly. The hand on his shoulder feeling more and ore like a feather, in his head he could almost see Dranzer over his shoulder, comforting him. "And I'd just do that to make someone else feel the pain. Make someone else feel as sad as I am inside. Make someone… make someone's life like mine… This is weird Hilary. I have never told anyone about this. Not even Tala." Kai knelt on the floor and closed his eyes. Hilary heard the definite sounds of trying to surpress a sob.
"Kai, I'm sorry about your past but live for the present and the future and you know talking helps." Hilary left the room and stood outside the door. "God I feel like his mum!" she whispered and walked back to her bedroom. Kai pushed himself off the floor.
"Dranzer, I'm sorry…"
