Daniel removed his glasses and set them on his desk, only to hear them clatter to the floor. Not bothering to pick them up just yet, Daniel's head sank into his palm and he slowly tried to release the tension that had built up in his temples.

It was one of those days, the kind when Murphy's Law seemed to dominate everything.

He woke up late.

Couldn't find his keys.

Or his shoes.

Traffic jam.

Spilled coffee all over the archeological records of P78-34C.

Computer crashed.

Daniel sighed with frustration, tempted to just tell the general he needed to go home. At least then he could hopefully get some sleep and put this awful day behind him.

"Hey Daniel, I…"

Crunch.

'Damn you Murphy, whoever you are.'

Daniel opened his eyes only to find Jack holding the remnants of Daniel's glasses. "Oh crap."

Daniel laughed ruefully and shook his head. Figures.

"Err…I take it you'll be needing these." Jack said, handing Daniel the bent wire and cracked glass that used to resemble a pair of glasses.

"Apparently not." Daniel said flatly.

"Do you have an extra pair?"

"Yeah somewhere…"

Daniel rose from his chair and crossed over to his file cabinet.

"You keep your extra glasses in a file cabinet?" Jack asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Have to. Otherwise I'd lose them…or they'd get broken." Daniel replied pointedly.

"Ah."

After a thorough search of the cabinet, however, Daniel came up empty-handed. "Perfect." He muttered. "Those must've been the last pair I had."

"Do you have an extra pair at home?" Jack suggested.

"No. The only other person who would have them would be…" Daniel trailed off as he reached for the phone sitting on his desk. He picked up the receiver and dialed a number quickly.

"Hi, it's me…I've been better. Can you do something for me?...Yeah, my glasses…uh-huh…you do? Oh, that's great…I'll be over to…well, no I can't drive without them…"

Hearing this, Jack motioned for Daniel's attention and quickly pointed to himself.

"Uh-huh, well Jack said he can give me a ride…okay…see you in a little bit…Thanks Janet."

"Doc has your spare glasses?" Jack said with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah." Daniel said, trying to ignore the sudden flush to his face.

"And why pray tell would that be?"

"Because the other Air Force officers seem to enjoy smashing them…so can you take me over to her house?"

"No problem."

Jack checked his watch for the billionth time and drummed his fingers on the wheel of his truck. How did receiving a pair of glasses take so long?

A few minutes later Fraiser's front door finally opened, and Daniel was returning to the truck, this time sporting a pair of familiar-looking glasses.

"Thanks, Jack." Daniel said, hoisting himself into the passenger seat.

"What took so long?" Jack asked, giving Daniel a sideways glance.

"Oh…uh, she couldn't remember where she'd put my extra pair."

"I see." Jack said with a nod. "Say Daniel…can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"Is that stuff smeared on your face…lipstick?"

Jack watched as all the blood drained from Daniel's face.

"Well?" Jack prompted, not even attempting to hide his smile.

"Damn Murphy!"
