Prologue to Moonlight
(I am not much of a poet, so forgive me for this feeble attempt)
As the sun departs
Leading from sunset to dusk
It takes with it hearts
And turns blue to rust.
The moon slowly rises
As night's blackness falls
A veil for its guises
Answering the moon's calls.
Full and as round
As the forest's sweet fruits
With it mysteries abound
As the sunlight dilutes.
The moon shines pearly white
A majestic, milky glow,
Lighting the blackness of the night
Forbidding to any foe.
The light of the orb
Whitens rivers and lakes
But dark forests absorb
The mysteries it makes.
For the trees shield the floor
From any sort of hope
Resenting what the moon bore
Instead, clinging to their short rope.
And lovers walking
Down moonlit paths
See white light soaking
Its stones in the moon's baths.
For the moon brightens the world
Amidst its darkest times
Offering hope during quarrels
And lessening its crimes.
So as the moon leaves
Putting out light's flame
The sky the sun cleaves
Bringing with it hope just the same.
