Chapter 2

Nathan's POV

I was slowly easing myself back into sleep; maybe if I slept mom wouldn't come back. Then, I heard the phone ring. The caller ID flashed HALEY. The concoction of feelings churning in me was not helping me decide whether or not I should answer the phone. Then, the angel dancing around my shoulders said that I should take the call. Haley is still my wife.

"Hello?" I asked sounding annoyed, life was just not good right now.

"Hey Nate, Luke called."

"That's all you have to say? Luke called."

"Nathan. Lucas called me and told me what happened. Sweetie, how do you feel?"

"Well, how do I feel. I tried to support my wife with her music career. I wanted her to go far because she has the most beautiful voice I had ever heard. And I would rather listen to her sing than 50 cent, or Eminem, which is very surprising. Then, my lovely wife accuses me of being jealous of her (the whole high flyers deal), she lies to me about working with some guy she barely knows, she expects me to understand her lying, she then kisses the guy: twice, she then…."

"Okay, Nathan I get it."

"No you don't Hales. Haley, I love you so much. And I know I shouldn't have asked you to give up on your dream when I wanted you to have in the first place. But you had just kissed the guy that does nothing but harass me and hit on you. I was confused."

"So was I Nathan, all this was happening so fast. I just, I didn't know what to do."

"Haley, you didn't have to lie, and you didn't have to kiss Chris. You're acting like I'm punishing you."

"Nathan…."

"Haley, what are you doing right now?"

"I'm going to get on a plane, and I'm coming home."

"Well, don't Haley." –I said, knowing I was going to regret it.

"Nathan, you almost died. I'm coming home."

"You want toknow why I almost died Haley? I kept driving that race car around the track, around, and around, and around. The speed increasing as I moved. All I was thinking about was you, us, our life. Before I knew it, my car at crashed into the wall and Luke and Uncle Cooper are trying to save my life. That is why I almost died. I was thinking about the tragedy that is us. Don't come home Hales, our home has collapsed just like our marriage."

I hung up, that didn't end well.
