"No you aren't. You're going to drink my coffee and watch TV," Grace called back to her daughter from the kitchen.
"Do you care?" Jessie called back as she and Judith threw their bags on the couch.
"Yes," Luke answered for Grace. "School called. You cut your third period class?" Jessie entered the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee.
"It was civics dad. It goes against my beliefs." Grace smirked, proud of her daughter.
"Grace, she's cutting class," Luke said. "You should be yelling at her, not congratulating her on a job well done."
"Chill dude, I didn't congratulate her." Jessie grinned and took a drink of her coffee. People had always told her that she took after her mother, but she usually had a hard time seeing how.
"Did you just call me dude?" Luke asked, taken aback.
"Old habits die hard Rocket Boy," Grace responded, giving him a smile. Jessie sat her cup down on the counter.
"Uhm, ew. Okay, dad, I promise I won't cut class anymore... This semester. I'm going to go study chemistry with Jer now. In the other room. Away from you two and whatever you do when I'm not around."
"Jer?" Luke asked.
"Judith Elizabeth Rove. Jer," Jessie explained, leaving the kitchen. Luke looked at Grace, who shrugged.
"She's our daughter. Did you expect her to be normal?"
"Good point."
