COMMENTS: This is a drabble fanfic based on the illusive FMA doujin game, Bluebird's Illusion by Ocean-X, and follows the Pride!Ed ending. This takes place some time after Envy has started teaching Pride (that is Ed) how to be a homunculus and so forth, whatever Hohenhiem's wanted Envy to do with Pride. Problem? Pride doesn't know how to express himself; Envy doesn't know how to read him...

DISCLAIMER: FullMetal Alchemist is copyright to Hiromu Arakawa and Square Enix and a whole load of other companies that would make anyone think twice if the even would think about stealing it for their own. Who in their right mind would write fanfiction of it if it belonged to them? But anyway, no profit will be made of this fan fiction. No copyright infringement was intended. The only thing I own here is this piece of writing.

A Brother's Thoughts

Envy lost Pride on a murky evening when the air was wet and thick. Lightning colored distant patches of cloudy sky and soft echoes of thunder hailed the coming storm. He didn't understand why, but there was a sense of urgency that made him think, "They all leave me, every one of them. He's going to leave me, too... Isn't he?"

Blonde, beautiful, perfect Pride always wandered off, as if he could not stand to be close to his jealous sibling. Envy hated the detached independence Pride possessed, but there seemed to be nothing he could do about it.

As rain met the rooftops of a residential area in Central, he spotted Pride in the back garden of a long-abandoned house, which used to be the home of Edward Elric and his brother.

Envy approached with caution.

"Hey, shrimp..." Pride continued kneeling on a patch of wet grass, not responding, so the older homunculus continued, "... What the heck do you think you're doing running off like that?"

Still no answer.

"Now we're both wet. Happy?" He crouched down beside Pride to see his expression. Or lack there of. "What's so interesting?" As far as Envy was concerned, Pride was staring at a bunch of weeds.

He barely caught it when Pride spoke. "What was that, shrimp?"

"... It's almost time," a soft repetition.

"Eh?" Envy tilted his head, leaning in to hear Pride over the downpour. "Time for what?"

"For these flowers to bloom." Pride never took his eyes away from the flowers as he replied, and slowly, the soft blue petals began to bleed bright light like the wings of fireflies. "Legend has it, if one holds these flowers to one's chest and prays while they're in bloom, the person one thinks of will be able to hear one's thoughts."

Pride leaned down and plucked a stem, cupping it in his hands. He closed his dull, golden eyes and brought the flower to his chest.

Envy frowned, brows creasing. He felt the rain fall heavily on his skin, matting his hair down. It was annoying. Was Pride remembering Alphonse Elric? An empty feeling settled over him. He felt lost. Impatiently, Envy asked, "So who are you thinking of?"

Pride didn't answer immediately. "...My brother." He finally looked at Envy, who had a strangled look in his wide eyes.

The younger homunculus explained, "That would be you."
