The Last Time
A/N: Erm, I'm not quite sure what this is. But it's a song I've made up for Erik to sing atop Apollo's Lyre, the Opera rooftop, after hearing Raoul and Christine sing together.
He is full of confusion, sadness, hurt, and angry determination. This song-y thing takes place of the "All I Ask of You Reprise" song during the 2004 ALW movie. So, I wrote it kind of like a play/script, and it's similar to the scene, also.
But, enjoy! I had such fun writing it. Rhyming is so cool. The stuff in the parenthesis are the actions/settings and the bold words are the lyrics.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything about the Phantom of the Opera: none of the characters or the books or the movie. However, these lyrics are my own creation!
(Erik emerges from behind stone statue after Raoul and Christine go off. He approaches the fallen rose, kneeling to pick it up. His voice is soft and sad; lost.)
Snow falling all around, my red rose upon the ground
What have you done, now that you've left me?
Abandoned once again, I 'm left to retreat
There's nothing more to explain, I can recognize defeat...
(Erik's voice drifts off as he gazes at the rose, unseeingly, brushing it against his cheek. He understands why Christine would choose a rich young Vicomte over an ugly lonely monster...Beauty has always been valued above spirit. In the distance, we hear Raoul and Christine harmonizing away, oblivious of everything but themselves. Erik's voice is heavy with emotion and his eyes glimmer with unshed tears as he whispers:)
Oh, Christine, you could've been my queen
I would've loved you...
(There is a steady pause as he reflects. He looks up, dropping the rose to the ground, and crushing it underfoot as he rises.)
Now that chance has passed, and I will not surrender...
(Erik's voice get's stronger, more angry and rough, as he slowly becomes enraged. He pushes aside his previous thoughts of being forgiving and giving up, as his sorrow is transformed into bitter determination.)
Victory will be mine, even if I must kill the contender!
Christine, you will soon realize, despite your current ties,
Your heart is still mine and our are fates intertwined.
This is the last time I will be shunned,
The last time my love will go ignored!
(With a flourished swirl of his brilliant cloak, Erik disapears down the staircase, heading towards his lair, avid to start on his plan that will grant him revenge against the foolish Vicomte and win Chirstine.)
A/N: I'm not quite sure if I like this myself, but go on and review, please! This is a quaint one-shot, but critisim and compliments are still fervently welcomed!
