STAR WARS. Episode III. Revenge of the Sith.
"Crashed"
He was standing by the window without realizing what he had just done. He kept on asking himself 'why?' but he couldn't say, why. He has just killed a Jedi…
He shivered under Palpatine's heavy look.
'Anakin', the Chancellor said softly. 'You did everything right'.
'Are you sure?' Anakin hasn't noticed how silly that kind of question was.
'Absolutely! They wanted to kill me! They wanted to gain control over the Republic. And you've just helped to prevent it.'
'I see now…'
Anakin had a strong desire to run away. What would he tell Padme? What must he tell Obi-Wan? What should he do from now on?
He was confused. He was lost in his dark thoughts.
'Anakin?' Palpatine spoke again, very quietly.
' Yes,… Chancellor?'
'I need to tell you one thing.' He said firmly.
Anakin looked at him, but he couldn't see his eyes, as Palpatine covered his face with the hood of his black cloak.
'I am your father.'
The thin glass of Anakin's beliefs, hopes and fears was broken in no time.
'It… it can't be!' Anakin whispered, looking at Palpatine almost terrified.
Palpatine just smiled.
'It can't be!' Anakin stated firmly, trying to convince himself in it.
Palpatine sighed and smiled again. One could think he wasn't even looking at the young Jedi, but he watched every movement, listened to his breath and even slight shades of his voice. Everything was proceeding as he had foreseen.
'My mother told me that…' Anakin began.
'She lied.' He interrupted.
'But why? She didn't have any reason to lie… did she?'
His world scattered and he, trying to collect all the pieces of the reality he knew, cut his fingers with the sharp edges of memories.
He was more confused now than he was after seeing his mother's death.
'She didn't want you to know. She couldn't tell anyone.' Paplatine paused, looked at the bewildered face of his apprentice-to-be and added 'I asked her'.
'But why? WHY?'
'Anakin, you are the Chosen One. It is your destiny. I wanted to protect you. So that you save…' he made a pause again, '… the Republic'.
Slowly Palpatine came closer to the boy.
'Now you know the truth. The Jedi are traitors! Who would you support? The bunch of self-centered rebels or your father?'
'You will end the war', Anakin stated. But they both knew it wasn't a statement, but a question.
'Yes'
'You will save Padme.'
'Yes'
'I'll do everything you wish… Master.'
He kneeled.
'Teach me. Order me.' – he cried out. 'And love me, father' – he whispered.
His old world crashed, but from the sharp fragments he'll build a new one, a better one. Together with beloved Padme. And with his father.
Palpatine tapped him on his shoulder and smiled.
He won.
