As a soul flew out the window it was no ordinary soul it was a Kings soul. The passing of Aragorn had come. As his lifeless body lay in his bed, crying was heard coming from Arwen the king's beloved wife as she cried in despair still holding her husbands hand as if afraid to let go. She gently kissed her husbands forehead and as she blew out the candle on the right side of the bed she muttered an elvish prayer and as the blew out the candle on the left side she whispered to her husband "I Love you and one day wewill be reunited" Then Arwen returned to the bedside and wept until her sides were sore, until her throat hurt and until she felt the nausea in her stomach.

When she could cry no more her sobs turned into cries and the loudest of these cries was heard down in the garden by a certain dwarf and next to him an elf who's piercing blue eyes were studying a rose petal falling to the ground, as much as he was watching it his mind was somewhere else trying to work out why this had to happen and why mortals had to die. He was brought back to reality by a friendly hand resting on his arm.

"Legolas are you ok, you have been quiet for so long now" asked Gimli concern etched in his face, only in his eyes could you see the sadness of his lost friend.

The sickly smell of the roses was making Legolas feel very queasy and he suddenly jumped up and mumbled something about checking on Arwen and left the garden and made his way into the hall of the kings. As he arrived at the door of Aragorn and Arwen's room he could still hear her sobbing. As he entered he saw Arwen crying with her face on the bed and her hands clutching the bedclothes.

"Arwen" said Legolas gently making his way over to her and kneeling took her by the shoulders and turned her to face him and he pushed her sodden hair back that had been covering her face. Arwen just leant on Legolas and wept again glad to have the comfort of her own kin, or what's left of it. After she gained some of her composure, she stood and sat on the side of the bed. She whispered almost to herself "He looks so peaceful".

Until now Legolas had refused to look at his friend's body turned slowly and inwardly cried and agreed that he did indeed look peaceful. Tears filled his eyes but he refused to let them fall, more Arwen's sake. After an awkward silence, Arwen turned and faced Legolas.

"One of Aragorn's last wishes was for you to finally listen to the call of the sea and make your way to the undying lands."

"I promised I would stay here with you" replied Legolas quickly

"Aragorn said he didn't want to you to have to watch Gimli die, you cannot ignore the fact that he will. I know I will not live much longer my heart is already breaking and it would be worse for you. I finally see what Aragorn meant no elf or any immortal being should have to see their loved ones die and be left alone"

At the thought of Gimli his last friend dying the tears could no longer hold back and they streamed down his cheeks. He had only briefly thought of the fact that Gimli would die and even then he found it too painful to ponder on.

"As it was Aragorn's wish I will have to fulfil it" said Legolas with almost no emotion which contradicted the tears still flowing down his pearly cheeks.
