Summary: Amy's reaction to ECW's One Night Stand
The red head stared in shock at the television screen in front of her. She hadn't expected that to happen. She figured that no one would dare bring that name up after what had happened. And she sure as hell thought that no one would bring the situation up. It wasn't part of any storyline, WWE or ECW. It was her personal life; his personal life. She knew as she watched his eyes that it was taking every muscle within his body to control himself. Clearly, he hadn't been expecting it either.
"... Matt freaking Hardy!"
Amy was aware that everyone, all of her co-workers, were aware of the triangle between herself, Matt Hardy, and Adam Copeland. But none of them dared to bring it up around her. It just didn't seem right. And then Paul Heyman, the biggest pig in all of sports entertainment went and pulled something like that. That was just plain wrong of him. What had gone on between the three had absolutely nothing to do with Edge's character, or the ECW One Night Stand, so why had he even brought it up?
She had no idea how long she'd been sitting there on the couch, she didn't even know she'd been silently crying. But before long, the door opened and she heard a deep sigh as the man she'd been watching previously stepped into the room. He didn't say anything at first, he just dropped the bag he'd been holding and took off his jacket, hanging it by the door. He walked over to the couch almost cautiously, knowing that she'd seen the segment.
"Hey," he said tentatively, sitting beside her on the couch. He watched her intently, looking for any sign as to what her reaction was going to be.
"I can't believe he said that." That was all she said. He could tell right away from the tension in her voice that she was holding something back. Shaking his head, he pushed a piece of hair away from her face.
"I know. I can't believe it either, and I was there. I didn't know how to react when he said it… I mean, he had no right bringing that up. Especially on live television." He paused for a moment, noticing a light streak on her cheek. "Hey," he said softly, gently tilting her head so that she faced him. He was positive now that she'd been crying. "What's wrong?" he asked stupidly, knowing exactly what was bothering her.
"I just-," she sucked in a breath nervously. "I thought it was all over. All the real 'slut' chants, and all the 'you screwed Matt' chants. And now… it's all going to be coming back. I know what I did was wrong, you know that what you did was wrong. We both understand that it was all our own fault, and we've apologized to no end about it. Why can't people just leave it alone!" She sighed, shaking her head and closing her eyes to block out tears before whispering, "Why can't people just leave us alone?"
Wrapping his arms around her, Adam pulled Amy close to his chest. She leaned her head against his shoulder and let out a quiet sob. "I just want to be happy."
The blonde man looked down at the woman who seemed so fragile in his arms. "And you can be. Listen to me Ames, this isn't about them, this isn't about Paul or the audience, and this sure as hell isn't about Matt freaking Hardy." He ran his hands softly through her hair. "It's about us. Everything's okay now, Amy," he said, kissing the top of her head with a feather-light kiss.
Closing her eyes and smiling slightly, Amy nodded her head against his shoulder. Everything was okay now.
