Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Your Face

A Work of LOTR Fanfiction

By The BloodRose

---------------

These strangers walk into the hall of this, our home.. and them you recognize. Not only recognize, but call by name. That low, dirty worm of a man greets them from beside you, always beside you, and I cannot help but wish I could relieve him of his wretched life. I kneel before you and speak to you, but again... you do not know me.

These men, your men draw arms against these strangers at the bidding of one whose foul presence should not even be necessary to bear. How can you allow this? How can you allow guests of our Hall to be treated this way?

And yet I need no answer. Though you look upon this, your eyes do not see.

The man in white speaks to you, and you answer. But this voice... it is not your own. It is the voice of one whom knows no light, a poison deeply rooted in the hearts of the wicked. This voice mocks the man in white, meaning to anger him in the guise of one once so noble and strong. It does little to phase him.

In an unexpected display of vehement anger you strike out at this man, and are struck back against your throne. Unable to stand inactive any longer I go to you, and watch in awe as you are restored to your true glory. Slowly, slowly your eyes clear, restored to that beautiful azure quality I've so dearly missed. As they focus on me I cannot help the joyus tears as they slide down my face, and at last you speak. In your true, rich voice, you speak

"I know your face. Eowyn."

I help you rise, once again the man I know you to be. I know now that all will be set right, once again the Golden Hall shall know the glory of its lord. As you hold your sword again, a profound peace settles over me. I know I will do anything for this country of Rohan, and the man who keeps it safe.

I know now that I will live for it, die for it. For you, my lord. My kin. My King.

"Your Face"--End.

Okay, I took some liberties with this story. If anyone's watched Two Towers closely (and let's face it, most people who read LOTR fics have), then you know that for half of that scene, Eowyn was not present. But for the sake of narration, I took advantage of my poetic licence and painted her in.

I chose to write a fic based on that scene (scene 16, The King of the Golden Hall) because I've always considered it one of the most heartfelt in the whole of the trilogy, and is in fact, my favorite. I hope you enjoyed reading it, as much as I enjoyed writing it.

All flames will be used to roast the marshmallows.
