Notes:For a challenge from shinjihiroshi . She wanted it
longer. I wasn't in the mood for long. Also, much suckiness, just
warning you. And clicheness. Why am I all of a sudden
writing clichefics!
Jack floated around, his noncorporeal body going nowhere in particular. So this is what being a glowy squid is like, he thought.
There was a tugging, and he let it pull him right out of Earth's atmosphere, through space, and to a binary solar system which consisted of two suns and a piece of rock.
"A bit desolate, I know," said another voice, as much as one could talk without having a body.
He turned; or rather, his consciousness reoriented what was his sense of "sight" toward whoever had spoken.
It was Daniel, just like he'd looked a moment before—or a lifetime before?—when he'd offered Jack ascension and Jack had taken the offer.
"Just a bit," he agreed.
"But it's peaceful, and we probably won't be interrupted," Daniel said, drawing his legs, or Jack's image of his legs, under him.
"What is there to interrupt?"
"We should talk."
"About what?"
"This--your ascension."
"What's there to talk about? There was no hope for me, so you ascended me. End of story."
"Jack…"
"I know, I know. This is the Great Path, we must travel it alone, yadda yadda…"
"No, actually," Daniel said with a soft smile. He "stood", in the sense that his legs straightened, and floated over to Jack. He held out his hand. "Only you know your journey, and only you can decide what it will be, but perhaps we can travel in the same direction? For a little while."
Jack considered the hand. "You going that-a-way?" he asked, motioning vaguely toward a brilliant supernova.
"I just might; it's something to see, anyway," Daniel said. Jack took the proffered hand.
"Then, since we're going the same way, we might as well go there together," he said.
They floated off into space, traversing the distance in an eternal second, to watch the exploding star together.
