Thought I discontinued this, huh? I'll see what I can do to finish this story up.
Chapter 9: Unexpected interference
Was Tara dead? The young girl's body was lying on the dead grass, not moving a muscle. Her eyes were open, and even those bore the aspect of excruciating pain. She was only a young girl, was Dr. Robotnik that unmerciful?
Sally's eyes slowly struggled to turn her head, amid the crushing grip of the metal claw. Using all the strength she had left, she managed to barely catch a glimpse of the robot android's foot. Just… barely… And that struck instant fear, sadness, and lost of hope into the princess.
"Sonic… Oh cruel fate…"
She gasped, and stopped trying to struggle to get away from the grip. It was no use, for some reason, all the weight the good side had, all suddenly shifted to the evil side. Feeling her soul leaving her body, and her body crying out from the lack of oxygen, she decided to spend her final moments remembering about the gallant blue hedgehog she once… knew…
"Pung!" A sharp dart suddenly shot from the side, and went into the red, glaring eyes of the blue robot. Although that hardly did any damage to X-1 at all, it did cause him to momentarily lose concentration, thus loosening his grip, allowing Sally to slump to the ground.
X-1 immediately followed instinct; it turned to the wincing Tara with the simple, obsolete dart gun. That meddling fox-girl, he had missed the perfect point by a centimeter… Its arm shot a needle into her chest, and slowly, the sedative began to take effect… The usual cry of pain, followed by the softening of her insolent crying… then… sleep…
Now it was time to finish off the princess. The stainless steel claw became filled with mercury and liquid metal in a second, and X-1 prepared to slice her wrist with it. Glory would be brought to the Robotnik Empire… soon enough.
It felt, no, it processed a sudden strong kick from behind, which sent him flying. Wasn't surprising, he was made of light metal to give him maximum speed, meaning that he wasn't that heavy. It then landed on the ground, on his feet, seeing his attacker with his infared vision.
Tails… Master had said that he would be an easy target, but perhaps, for once, Master was wrong. Strangely, the unrecognizable voices inside it flared up a little, but that didn't change anything…
It broke into a spindash, showing off its magnificent, shiny, sharp quills…
Slice and dice.
"Sonic…" the two-tailed fox hissed softly, "my arch-enemy… no matter how much you have changed, no matter how strong you are, I will go against you without fear…, I will kill you without hesitation. I will not lose to you, after what you have done… to me."
Despite the spikeball's awesome speed, he dodged the attack easily, jumping high into the air. He then saw the blue hedgehog stop with good reflexes just before hitting the tree, and shoot glowing energy balls high into the air. Kicking away from the air, Tails dodged them gracefully with ease, as the balls of electricity flew past him into outer space.
"Now it's my turn…" Tails said loudly.
As if he was the master of gravity, he made himself drop like a stone onto the ground. Running at full speed at the metal robot, from his hands he whipped out a blaster. Energy balls were blocked by his own bolts. He then focused on the robots sharp claws, certain that they would pierce through the flimsy aluminum amour of its owner.
He fired a bolt just above the robot, as it predictably jumped and got hit… Then he pinned the smoking piece of metal onto the tree trunk with his hands. Examining it, his bullet had hit the sweet spot and shocked the circuits a little. It would last for about 2 minutes or so… A perfect time to kill the person who haunted his past, the very person who he yearned to see dead, no matter in the flesh or in metal.
Metal…
He began to grip the slippery metal by its grooves, and using his immense strength, he tried to yank the claw finger from the hand…
Bunny had watched the battle from behind the hills, taking place just about 100 feet away. It was weird enough to see Tails just go out of the clinic room just after 5 minutes in critical condition, without saying a word, but this was out of this world… And the electric blue robot, who was it? It sure looked real familiar, but Tails seemed to be able to overpower it without difficulty…
Something must have affected the normally fearful two-tailed fox; he was now fighting like a true warrior… and he must have trained for a hundred years to be that adept in fighting. Maybe it was the thing that Tara injected into his body, Sally would have interrogated her by now…
Suddenly, a powerful beam was shot out from the robot's body, electrifying Tails; she saw the sparks as he flew a few feet from the tree. Shocked, Bunny quickly ran to the place where the body landed, just right next to those of Tara and Sally…
Robot X-1 was now groaning, leaning at the side of the tree. The damage the meddling fox had did to it was by no means minor, there were deep scratches that revealed the wires and the chips that were deep beneath the mesh. If it had not been able to develop the plasma cannon that were hidden in its chest, it would have been scrap metal by now.
85 damage done, not repairable by self. Loss of one limb, power capacity rapidly decreasing…, unable to survive without immediate maintenance…
Developing a rip in the fabric of time and space, it limped back, like a snail, into it.
Dr. Robotnik was now deeply engrossed in developing a chassis for the 7 chaos emeralds and 5 time stones. He knew that they could work together; he just needed to figure out how… Calculations, calculations which difficulty was hard even for his genius.
Time, space, energy capacity…
"Arghhh!" he shouted in frustration. There was certainly no shortcut to use, he had to take time to develop it, he had to work non-stop till the morning to get this straight. He suddenly wished that he had spent time to develop this than on that stupid, obsolete "Tails" plan of his. Typing 3000 lines of code? For nothing? Hopefully, X-1 would have ended the failed subject's life on his trip to Knothole.
The Egg Laser was positioned right in front his table. This was his last resort, if all else miraculously fails, this would be the solution. Knothole would be instantly be destroyed, definitely, if the Egg Laser hit its target.
Suddenly, his servant robot came through the door, causing its master to raise his blood pressure some times over.
"What is it now, you meddling inferior robot?"
"X-1 has been heavily damaged, sir. It had failed its mission, and barely escaped," said the robot, seemingly shaken by his Master's anger."
"How can he fail anything? What was the cause of his wounds?" said Robotnik., following the robot to the maintenance room.
"He said something about a two-tailed fox." the monotonous voice of the robot beeped.
This caused Robotnik to stop in his tracks. His face became redder and redder by the second, getting set to burst into a wild rage… Why did luck have to be on the good side?
Why?
His plans were perfect, but became imperfect because of another of his perfect plans?
He sighed… managing to keep cool, as he immediately opened the file with all the moves he programmed inside the nanochip.
Now time for the last of the victims…, Tara.
Walking over the hill, Bunny saw the lifeless body of the young fox-girl.
"Forced to be a traitor, while she really wanted to stay here ol' peacefully, like in her dreams… poor gal" she thought as she used the fireman's lift to get Tara up.
That was when she felt the cold metal of Tara's arms on Bunny's organic arm… wait a minute…
Bunny brought the girl down on the ground again, and was surprised to find, her skin slowly turning into metal, the process reaching her elbow now…, and still slowly spreading.
The rabbit quickened her pace… how much had Robotnik learnt these past few years?
Rushed as usual, think this is a good chapter that gives this fic some hope… As usual, tell me my weaknesses, as usual.
