Title: Observant
Rating: PG
Summary: Hawkeye's noticed something.
Pairing: Charles/Klinger
I'm not horribly unobservant. I do notice things, even when the people around me are trying to be subtle.
Of course, people don't think I do.
"Oh, Hawkeye, didn't you see this?"
"I can't believe you didn't notice that!"
See how well they know me? Maybe I save my observational skills for things more personal or for things more important, had they ever considered that?
But I digress.
The reason for this impromptu little rant has to do with two people - Charles Emerson Winchester III and one Maxwell Q. Klinger.
Charles is all right. Sure, he's pompous and he can be a snob, but I generally like him. He understands the art of a good practical joke and has moments that do prove his humanity, even if he'd rather we didn't know.
Klinger has always been rather peculiar - the nose, the food, the way he would dress - but that's okay because that's one of the reasons we like him. We like that he's not perfect and a little weird. It's what make him, him.
If I were to travel around the world, I don't think I could find any two men more opposite or less suited for each other.
And yet, somehow, yes, you guessed it, they're together.
Now, I have no problem with homosexuality, and I never understood those who did. It's not hurting anyone and that's the only reason I could think to dislike it. I mean, war kills millions of people, but we don't seem too worried about that, so why should we care what two guys like to do in the privacy of their own bedroom? Or, well, supply tent, in this case.
But considering the two people involved, at first I thought I was imagining things and that I was crazy, but it's there. Hard to fathom, I know, but it's there.
That's when I figured it was one of those crazy things that only happened because of the situation; war does do crazy things to people and Klinger and Charles have shown no signs of ever caring for each other, but then again, I suppose that's the point. If they suddenly were all chummy, I guess more people would be curious.
This is why I've finally come to the conclusion that they have some general feelings for each other. I don't know exactly what, and I don't think they've even told each other yet, but they're both men and both stubborn, so that's not exactly surprising is it?
I wish there was someway I could let them know I knew and that I wanted them to be happy, but with the atmosphere around here, that would not only be dangerous but extremely stupid.
At least I can take some comfort in the fact that amidst the craziness of war and the bloodiness of mindless killing, something good has sprung from it.
And that's all that matters.
