Chapter 14: Muerte
A/N: I've decided to add more drama... okay? And the title of this chapter is in Spanish. Don't look it up! I'll tell you at the end if you don't already know what it is. If you look it up the chapter is a complete give away! So don't do it! Thanks and here's more for you! Oh, and about the other chapter when James and Lily were not speaking, it was because he had told Sirius before coming to her. She wanted to know of his plans, and his wants before he told his mates; especially since they were alone (or so it seems) in the common room where anyone can over hear. Thanks for asking, and I hope that cleared it up! If not just ask me in another review!

Muerte
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------
I smiled faintly at my boyfriend who was sitting on the opposing side of the common room, three Sunday evenings after our confrontation. Though I still hadn't decided about our physical relationship, this, for the most part, was back to normal.
"Your move," Amelia prompted.
"Knight to E-6," I said absently, doodling on a piece of spare parchment.
"Lil?"
"Yeah?" I said, looking up. She pointed to the board and revealed that my own piece was on E-6, and that I had not one Knight on the board. "Oh. I don't know."
"Something wrong... or are you just thinking about snogging lover-boy?"
I grinned as I felt blush creep to my cheeks, and Edgar laughed. "Who would have known you'd fall for someone like James?"
"Not me!" I said laughing.
"You guys all right?" inquired Edgar.
"After what had happened... I think it's only made us stronger."
"Lily Evans was made stronger by James Potter?! Thought I'd never see the day."
The group around us laughed, as Edgar told stories he remembered from our years together; they involved James and I fighting, or pulling pranks on each other. My laughing stopped slightly as I looked over at the Marauders. James had received a letter and was reading it. I watched his expression change. Sirius said something quietly, and James stood up and walked up to his old dormitory. I knew something was up now; he never goes up there. I slowly walked over to the group.
"What's going on?" I asked sitting down.
"Nothing," Remus answered too quickly. It was confirmed: something was up.
"I'll just go ask James—"I said standing up but Sirius pulled me down.
"You can't."
"I can."
"He... he... um..."
"Last time you tried to stop me from going somewhere was when you were covering for James."
Sirius gulped and Remus looked away nervously. I raised my eye brows and sat back down.
"Is there something I need to know? Something that James has done... or is doing?"
"It's not that!" said Peter urgently.
Okay, maybe I'd overreacted... but I do have experiences with this things, I know the man I love.
"I—"
"Please Lil. He'll talk to you when he's ready. Just go up to the Head's rooms and we'll see you tomorrow."
I shot them one more look, nodded in defeat and wished them goodnight.
"Something's up with James," I announced, walking over towards the group.
"You don't think he's seeing someone else do you?" asked Amelia.
For some reason I shook my head no. "He looked upset. I don't know what happened... but I think I'll go to bed."
They nodded and wished me goodnight. I walked silently and alone to the Head's room, where I would have normally been kissing James, or flirting, or just talking. This was very strange... very strange indeed, I decided, slipping into my bed. Whatever it was I'll know by tomorrow. I closed my eyes sleepily and fell into a slumber.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------
The colours of the pale sun rose to awake me the next morning. I felt a knot in my stomach, and I got a monster head ache. Alone, I walked down to breakfast after a quick shower that made my head hurt worse. When I sat down at the table I looked around and ignored my oatmeal (yuck). Amelia and Edgar walked in, Dorcas behind them, not more then five minutes after me.
"Hey Lil."
"Guys," I nodded, rubbing my temples.
"Something wrong?" asked Amelia.
"Head ache."
"Need to go see the nurse?" asked Dorcas, putting down her toast.
"I think I'll be okay," I said fake-smiling.
The owl post was fluttering in above us, and my bright gray owl swooped over and dropped the daily prophet. I knocked my bowl off the table and everyone stared. I heard Amelia and Dorcas gasp to my right as we read the article that I been shocked by.
MINISTER'S WIFE KILLED
"Minister of Magic Harold Potter came home from a week of straight work to find
Mary Potter, his wife, dead with the Dark Mark hovering over her life- less body.
Ministry officials are working tediously trying to find the Death
Eaters responsible. Their one and only son, James Potter, is a seventh
year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Neither our
Minister nor James was available for questioning—"
That was all I needed to read, before I threw down the paper and ran out of the Great Hall; people left behind were calling me. As fast as I could, blinded by my tears, I ran to the Gryffindor common room and up the stairs to the boys' dormitory. I burst open the door to see James sitting on the window sill staring outside like nothing was wrong.
"J-James," I said softly. He turned to look at me. "How come y-you didn't tell m-me?"
He stared at me, and looked away out the window again. I walked over quickly and took his hand, trying to wipe the tears away. He shook his head and looked away.
"You know, huh?" I looked at him, and was shocked he even spoke.
"I'm sorry," I said softly.
He looked at me, and I kissed him softly on the lips.
"Stop Lily!" he said, hopping off of the window sill and moving away.
"What?!" I asked.
"My mother just died and you want to snog!"
"I don't want to snog!"
"You walk in here and kiss me like I'm going to be okay after you put your tongue in my mouth!"
I stared at him incredulously.
"I'm going to pretend you didn't say that," I said softly.
"Well I did say that!" he spat. "You know you only came up here to snog me."
I rolled my eyes. "I know better than this." I ran a hand through my hair, feeling completely stressed out.
He shot a glare at me.
"I know you're in pain, and I know you don't mean this... so I'll let it go."
"I do mean it," he said through gritted teeth.
And for a reason, I believed him. I believed that he wanted me to walk out the door; to leave him alone. I glared at him.... This is what I get for trying to help out the most important person in my life? Oh well...
"I know you, Lily."
"And I thought I knew you," I shot back.
"If you're randy go find someone else to snog."
I glared at him, "Are you giving me permission to cheat on you?"
He laughed cruelly. "Since when did you need permission?"
I laughed, "You have no idea how much you mean to me. You have no idea how much I love you."
"Love to snog me."
"Shut up James. I would never cheat on you."
He looked at me for a moment. "Just get over yourself Lily. You're not who you think you are."
"You're not who I thought you were!" I screamed back.
"Then maybe I should find someone else to get to know me!"
"Are you breaking up with me?"
He looked like he actually was thinking about it. Like he'd stop yelling at me, to think about his actions before he did them. Honestly, I couldn't tell if he was going to or not. And I didn't want to know. So I crossed my arms and shot him a glare.
"Whatever James... I'll see you around."
I stepped out of the room, fuming and I walked as calm as I could down the stairs, but I was ready to explode inside. I had to remind myself that James had lost his mum... that he was going to take it out on everyone, not just me. I just had to remind myself that these things change people. That it takes a while for them to be okay. Strange how something can effect others so easily. Strange.
