Living With Him

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

Dear Lily,

As you know Petunia is marrying Vernon this up and coming Sunday. After spending very much time arguing with her, she allowed you to come to the wedding. We've arranged with your Headmaster to have you home for a week starting tomorrow.

Petunia has requested that you bring your own date; Vernon has no friends for you to dance with, from what I hear. I've arranged for James to come with you. Unfortunately, we will not be able to meet up with you two at the train station. The Dursley's have invited us over for afternoon tea. If you don't mind, please use magic to get yourselves home. See you then, Hun!

With Love,
Mum

No! No, no, no, no, no! This is not happening. A whole week with James, is she mad?! I can't believe it. Why hadn't she asked if I wanted James to come home? I paced around my dormitory, momentarily thinking about writing her back and telling her James can't come. It's inevitable. He's coming home with me... to go to a wedding and to be my date.

I sit down on my bed and think it over carefully. This could be a good thing. It would give me a reason to talk to James and try to get our relationship back. However, what if we pull even further away? I roll my eyes in amusement... I won't let that happen. So here I go... down the stairs to talk to James. I take a deep breath before entering the Head's common room. Drat... he's with his friends, probably.

Clutching the letter tightly in my hand, I swallow my pride and walk into the common room. As I expected, he's sitting with his friends talking in hushed voices. I give a friendly smile to my friends and walk over to him, trying to look confident. James looks up as I walk closer. Oh, geez. He looks brilliant. His hair is messier than ever and he's smiling—well he was until he saw me. I stop a foot away from him.

"Hi," I said quietly.

"Hey," he said looking up as if expecting me to yell at him.

"I need to talk to you," I said taking his hand and pulling him off the couch. I saw him shoot a look back at Sirius, then follow me out of the portrait hole. My fingers interlocked with his and I pulled him down the corridor.

"What's going on?" he asked.

I stopped walking and handed him the letter. "This is from my mum."

He looked up at my questioningly but took the letter anyway, and read it over. His eye brows creased. "Okay," he said handing me back the letter.

"James—"

"We should go pack then," he said walking towards the Head's room again.

"You don't have to go," I said quickly.

"You don't want me to go?"

I shrugged, following through the Head's portrait. "It's up to you. I just wanted to talk to you about the wedding."

"I know Petunia's not the nicest to you—"

"It's not that," I said quietly, reaching out and stopping him from walking up to his room. "We can't fight when we're there."

He nodded, "I'm sorry about before."

"Did I do that?" I whispered as I touched a cut above his right eyebrow.

"It was the hex," he said quietly.

"I'm sorry... I was mad."

"I know," he said quietly, taking my hand in his as I lowered it from his cut.

"I'll tell you what you want to know," I whispered pulling him towards the couch.

"About what?"

"Hogsmeade," I said as we sat down.

"Dorcas told me the story. I'm sorry for not believing you."

I nodded leaning towards him, "I love you—"

"I see things are back to normal here," said a voice from the doorway.

James and I jumped a good four feet apart as we looked up. "Professor Dumbledore, sir."

"I came to discuss what would happen with the Prefects while you two attend the wedding."

"Oh, sir," I said quietly. "We haven't had a meeting in a while—"

"Because of the fighting," James said quickly.

"Yes... I've had a discussion with Professor McGonagall," he said with twinkling eyes.

I smiled, "When's the train leaving, sir?"

"Tomorrow morning around eleven. Are you packed?"

"No," I admitted, smiling. "We were just going to."

"In twenty minutes or so," grinned James.

Dumbledore laughed. "All right, the Head's of House will have a meeting in two days. When you two return Professor McGonagall will fill you in on the new accomplishments and new events."

"Thank you, sir."

"Best of luck," said Dumbledore.

"I'll tell Petunia you said that, sir."

"I meant best of luck to you two."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

"What are you bringing?" I asked bringing my packed trunk into James' messy room.

"Clothes."

"I wonder what you're wearing to the wedding," I said thoughtfully. "Daddy will probably take you to a tailour or something."

"What's that—?"

"James?!" called someone from the doorway.

I opened it. "How did you get in here?"

Sirius shrugged, plopping on James' bed. "Where are we going?!"

"We're not going anywhere," laughed James. "Lily and I are going to a wedding."

"You've made up and now you're getting married?!" exclaimed Sirius with excitement.

I laughed, "Try again, Sirius."

"But you have made up, then?"

"Dumbledore walked in on us snogging," announced James.

"Way to go!" said Sirius with a wolf call.

"Professor Dumbledore," I corrected. "And we weren't snogging."

"Awe, ruin all the fun," said James who was grinning.

I laughed, "Are you packed yet?"

"Why are you in a rush?"

"She obviously wants to get back to snogging," said Sirius causing James and him to laugh.

I rolled my eyes, "I'm not even going to give a counter comment."

I pulled my trunk downstairs towards the front of our common room. I looked around the room searching for something I might want to bring. Then up in my room I picked up a blanket that I've had for a while. My grandma had sewn it for me when my mum was pregnant with me. It's the only thing I can remember her by... she passed away when I was three. I clutched the blank to me and walked towards James' room.

"So you still haven't talked it out?"

"Not completely," shrugged James. "We've got a whole week to work it out."

"Good luck then," said Sirius sitting up as I walked in. "Awe, Lily has a blanket."

I clutched it closer. "So?"

"Yeah, so?" laughed James.

"That's not funny," I laughed.

"Then why are you laughing?"

"I happen to be easily amused," I said, sitting next to James, who pulled me into his lap.

"I heard about the 'talk,'" said Sirius.

"What talk?" I said pulling the blanket to my face and looking between Sirius and James.

"Your dad told James to treat you right."

I rolled my eyes, "That was so embarrassing."

"We already talked about that," shrugged James. "I'm fine with him being protective. I'm going to be extra protective over you now."

"Oh yeah?"

"Hell yeah," promised James. "Never leaving you alone again."

"I thought you trusted me."

"I trust you," countered James quickly. "I just don't trust other guys."

"Like who?"

"Sirius—"

"What?!"

"Sirius your shoes untied," laughed James only moments before Sirius tripped over it. "I told you."

I laughed, "Are you okay, Sirius?"

He picked himself off the ground, "Thanks for the warning, Prongs."

"No problem, Padfoot." Sirius tied his shoe quickly, then walked out the door without another word. I wouldn't be surprised if he was telling everyone that James and I had gotten back together. We hadn't... not yet anyway. Maybe James forgot but we still are broken up. I'll have fun and see how long it takes him to realize this.

"So who don't you trust, Prongs?"

"What did you call me?"

I stuck out my tongue. "Who don't you trust?"

"Prewett... and Abbott—"

"Why don't you trust John?"

"He's too quiet," said James, giving me the impression that he didn't have a reason for not trusting John.

"Peter's quiet."

"But he's—There's a difference."

"No there isn't," I laughed.

"Fine you win," said James turning me to look at him. "Who all is going to be at the wedding?"

"Vernon's family... Vernon's friends... Vernon's work peoples... Petunia wanted a small wedding."

"When was Vernon into small things? Besides Petunia of course," laughed James.

"He's a big bloke, isn't he?" I asked. "Anyway... what are we going to do with your hair?"

"I don't know," said James, who was watching me try to flatten it. I ran a hand through his hair and stood up, against James' wishes. "Where are you going?"

"I'm taking your trunk down stairs."

"Oh really?"

"Yeah," I said picking it up with great difficulty.

"You're going to hurt yourself," he said getting off the bed quickly.

I muttered a spell under my breath and the trunk levitated off the ground. "I'm just fine."

He followed me down the stairs. "So we're Apparating to your house?"

"As long as we don't Floo, I'm just fine," I said causing James to laugh.

"Let's go to sleep," James said as I yawned.

"Okay," I said walking into his arms for a hug. I kissed him on the cheek, "Goodnight."

"Hey you come back here," said James pulling me back into his arms.

"James."

"Just a goodnight kiss."

"You already got one."

"A real one."

"What's a real one?" He leaned down and kissed me on the lips. I broke apart and yawned.

"You think I'm boring now?" he said laughing.

"Love you," I said leaning up for a peck and walked towards the stairs. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

A/N: I really hadn't meant to get them on such good terms. James does know that they're not together yet. He's planning on just being really close to her and talking more during the wedding. I think something fun is going to happen when James goes to the wedding... so they're not together... there will probably be another fight with them because of something. Seven more chapters represent seven more days so they'll be titled Day one.. day two... etc. etc. Review please!
