Day One

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

I sat up in my bed and searched for my watch on the bed side table. Squinting at the watch I saw that it was almost nine thirty. Clutching the blanket to the bed I sat up and walked towards the bathroom. Peaking my head into James' room I saw that he was still sleeping. I roll my eyes smiling, and decide to take a quick shower. When I stepped out I saw James was still sleeping. I walked into his room and towards his bed.

"James... James..." I said lightly tapping him on the shoulder.

"Uh?"

"James... love," I sat down on the bed and shook him. "Wake up..."

"Huh?" he said opening one eye.

"The train's leaving soon."

"No..." he whined.

"Come on James... I want to say goodbye to the girls."

He pulled himself out of bed and yawn. I couldn't help but smile as he pulled the covers over and, rubbing his eyes sleepily, he walked towards the bathroom.

"Thank you," I said, receiving a wave from James.

After he got out of the shower the House-elves came and took our trunks down stairs, while we went up stairs looking for our friends. They were sitting in the common room waiting for us when we arrived.

"We heard about you guys," laughed Dorcas. "Sirius told us."

"What did he tell you?" I asked laughing too.

"Snogging—"

"Just as I suspected... well I hate to burst your bubble but James and I are not back together."

"Why not!?" asked Amelia eagerly.

"I don't know... ask him," I laughed, hugging her for a goodbye.

"Good luck with James..."

"And Petunia..."

"Yes, her," laughed Edgar.

I walked over towards the boys who were saying goodbye. As I walked over James got up from his seat and shook the guy's hands. He gave me a friendly smile before walking over towards my friends.

"Hello Lilykins!" greeted Sirius.

"Be good for a week," I said quietly. "Please, Sirius."

"He will," Remus said, pulling me into a hug. "Take care of James."

I laughed, "I'll try."

"Wow... that's a better response than I expected," Peter said, pulling me in for a small hug.

"You guys take care, all right? Keep me posted on things, will you? I'm afraid I'll need a break from the Muggle world after this week."

"That bad, huh?"

I shrugged, "I'll manage. See you."

"See you," I heard Sirius say as he hugged me goodbye.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

Dear Lily and James,

We're sorry for not being here when you two arrived from school. Because we felt so bad, we're going out to dinner tonight. Lily, do you remember the fancy café we used to go to with your grandpa? Meet us there at seven thirty tonight. We're looking forward to your arrival.

BEHAVE!

Love,
Mum and Dad

I laughed at the note that I picked up on my kitchen table. My father's handwriting wrote behave in big letters across the end of the note. James read over my shoulder and smiled.

"I thought he trusted us," James said thoughtfully.

"He does," I countered walking up the stairs. "He's just really protective. He doesn't like me being home alone... or with a guy. Not after our discussion at Christmas... or so Mum has said."

James nodded in understanding and I opened to door to my room. "You'll probably stay in the pull-out bed in my room. Petunia will be in her room, and Vernon will be in the guest room."

James laughed, "They haven't slept together before, and they're getting married?"

I smiled, "Not everyone has that kind of belief—"

"I don't mean that kind of sleeping," he said picking up a little doll off my shelf. "What should I wear to this café place?"

"What should I wear?!"

James turned and grinned at me. "I'll find something for you."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

"I like this shirt," he said holding up an undershirt. "Wear this."

"James," I said taking it out of his hands and putting it back in the drawer. "That's a shirt that goes under shirts."

"Oh right... I knew that..."

"How about this shirt?" I asked holding up a nice gauze shirt.

"Too big..."

"James!" I said laughing. He smiled at me and continued to go through my drawers. I walked into my closet and closed the door behind me. I put on my bell bottoms and my gauze shirt.

"Oh... oh now these I like..." I heard James say.

"What are you talking about?" I asked from the closet.

"Nothing, nothing... Wow... you have more..."

I opened the door to try to see what he was talking about. My eyes widened as I saw what was in his hands. He held it up examining it.

"James!" I said coming out of the closet and walking towards him.

"Wait!" he said urgently looking over at me.

I stared around my room. "What?! What's wrong?"

"Nothing... I'm trying to picture you wearing this," he said laughing.

I let out a groan of annoyance and walked towards him reaching out for my underwear he was holding. "Give it back, James!"

"Not a chance," he laughed holding it over my head.

"Why do you have to be so tall!?" I shrieked sitting down on my bed.

"You actually wear this?" he held them up, grinning.

I rolled my eyes. "Give them back!"

"Nope. You didn't say the magic word," he said laughing.

"Oh yeah... Accio!"

"Hey!" he said indignantly.

"Could you stop going through my undergarments?"

"But it's sooo much fun, Lil. It's like a preview of what's to come," he said light-heartedly.

I pushed him onto my bed and pinned him down. "Do I have to lock that drawer?"

He smiled, "I'm just kidding, Lily, you know that."

My face softened. "I know... I know... But please don't do that kind of stuff... It's personal."

"I know, and I respect that," he said looking up at me with sincerity. Quickly but softly, he leaned up and brushed his lips on mine.

"Come on... you best get ready for dinner."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

"I hope your train ride was enjoyable," said my mum quietly picking up her steak knife.

"Perfect," said James cheekily.

"Having a good term so far?" inquired my father.

"It's getting better," I said sharing a knowing smile with James who smiled back.

"Is there something we should know about?" My mum looked at James and I, a smile playing upon her lips. "Lily? James?"

My father dropped his fork and James stood up, "Lily... may I talk to you for a moment? Please excuse us," he said quietly.

I got up and followed him towards the wash room.

"Something wrong, love?" I asked quietly, a smile visible on my face.

"We should tell them about us being together."

"We're not together," I said, my smile fading.

"Huh? Perhaps I heard you wrong... did you just say that we aren't together?"

"We broke up, remember James?"

He frowned, "I remember clearly, yes. But I was going to make it up to you this week."

I looked up at him as he took my hand in his. "James..."

"Lily, if I need to gain your father's approval I will."

I nodded, "I know, but—"

"They don't need to know about our break up," he said quietly. "Your father would be very upset with it all, don't you think?

"Yes... of course he would be."

James pleaded with his eyes and I smiled, nodding my approval. We walked back towards the table hand-and-hand. My parents were talking quietly when we walked over.

"Mummy... Daddy," I said quietly, sitting down next to James. "James and I are... are..."

"You're..." said my mum who was stifling back a laugh.

"We're dating," James said smiling, and I laughed nervously.

My father lifted his eye brows and set his knife back on the table. "That's all very good, I suppose..."

"Richard," my mum warned.

I looked around the table, seeing James gaze at me from the corner of his eye. He held my hand reassuringly.

"Mr. Potter you know how much I—"

"He's a good boyfriend, Daddy—"

"Honestly Richard... James is a good boy."

"Check please."

My parents got unto the car, James and I followed. James opened the door in the back for me and as he was about to get in my father called him up to sit next to him. My mother climbed into the back seat with me as we drove home.

The car ride was silent, nobody spoke of the relationship James and I had. When we walked into the house the real discussion began. James and I walked up to my room and I could hear my parents talking down stairs.

"Rose—"

"Richard they are not going to do anything! James will sleep in the pull out and nothing will happen."

"They are teenagers!"

"Who we trust!"

My father was quiet for a moment afterwards. I leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder. He in return circled his arm around my waist.

"When have we got a free day?" he whispered.

"I don't know... why?"

"I was hoping we could go to dinner... or somewhere."

I smiled, "I'll talk to Mum tomorrow."

And even though it probably wasn't the best idea, James and I leaned back in my bed and closed our eyes. James clutched his arms around me as we silently awaited sleep to overcome us. I slipped my feet under the covers and pulled the sheets above James in myself. Before we fell asleep James and I murmured goodnight, and shared a kiss. The next morning hell would be paid if my father found us.
