Chapter 22: Day Three

A/N: I have nothing much to say... as I haven't read anyone's reviews for 21... I'm writing this one right after I wrote last one... so I haven't posted 21 yet (as I write this).

Day Three

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

I woke up the next morning to see James asleep on my right. I smiled as I moved closer to him and hugged him. He turned to face me, looking quite tired.

"Good morning," he said softly.

"I can't believe we did that," I whispered as he turned around to face me completely.

"Do you regret it?" he whispered.

I placed my hands on his bare collar bones. "No."

He placed his hands on my hips as he leaned down to kiss me. "Did I hurt you?" I nodded a small nod. "I'm sorry."

"I'm sure it'll be less painful next time," I said against his chest.

He kissed the top of my head. "I love you."

"I love you, too."

I sat in his arms until I heard movement down stairs. I opened my eyes as I heard the bathroom door open. Someone knocked on our door.

"Lily? James?"

"James is sleeping," I said in a loud whisper.

"Oh, sorry," said the voice retreating down the stairs.

"You do look quite tired," I commented.

"I wonder why," he said grinning.

I ran my hand down his face and leaned up to give him a small kiss. "The sheet is..." I was too embarrassed to really say it out loud. Fortunately James took out his wand and cleaned up the mess. I kissed him lightly on the lips again and moved towards the edge of the bed.

"Where are you going?" he asked quietly.

"I'm going to go get dressed."

"I guess I better get dressed too."

I handed him his shirt as we proceeded to get dressed. I sat down in my bed and pushed the covers around throwing a pillow off the bed for good measure. He stood up from his own bed and walked over towards me, pulling me into a hug. I buried my head into his chest.

"I told you I wasn't going to leave you afterward."

"I'm glad," I replied softly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

As James and I ate breakfast, I had that familiar feeling as though someone other than James and I knew of what we had done last night.

"What are you two going to be up to, today?"

"Have we got all day or something?"

"And all night," snickered Petunia.

James and I shared a glance. "I think we'll go out..."

"Or you could always stay in," laughed Vernon.

"I think I'm going to take a shower," I said quietly.

"A cold shower, Lily?" asked Petunia causing Vernon to laugh and causing James to tense up in his chair.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

"Do you regret it now?" asked James as we sat in my bedroom thinking of what we would do for our date tonight.

"Do you want me to regret it, or something James?" I snapped back.

"Of course not," he asked dropping his hold on me.

I shook my head laying back into his lap. "I'm sorry..."

He smiled slightly wrapping his arms around my waist. "I shouldn't have asked."

"Why don't we go out and spontaneously do something?" I asked after a moment.

"I'd go anywhere with you..." he said reaching out and making me look him in the eye.

"Let's start off by going back to the park," I smiled remembering that's were it all started.

(Flash Back)

I lead him to the snowy front of the house. We walked around the mini-park next door, and were silent for most of the time.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" he asked, catching me off-guard.

"What did Sirius say?"

"Nothing..." he looked at me oddly. "I can tell when you're nervous... or when you want to say something."

"I do," I admitted quietly, and beckoned him to sit next to me. "James... remember when... I said we could never be... anything?"

He looked at me skeptically, and nodded while looking away.

"Please look at me," I said softly. He turned to look at me. "Well... something happened."

"What is it?" he asked barely above a whisper.

"I... I think I'm in love with you..."

(End)

James stood up and took me by the hand. "Shall we go now?"

"Why not?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

"I wish it was winter," I said from the swing James was pushing me on.

"Why?"

"I love the cold... I love the snow."

He smiled... "If ever I was to get married to you, would you want to get married in the snow?"

"Of course," I said smiling.

"I'll keep that in mind," he said laughing as he pushed me higher.

"Did you ever think you'd fall in love with me?"

"After all the fights we'd been in? No... but I'm glad we fell in love," he said thoughtfully. "Remember when I ruined your date with Dearborn?"

"Caradoc? I never found out why you did do that. You didn't like me then, it was at the beginning of fifth year..."

James didn't answer and I stopped the swing, hopping off and turning towards him. "You..."

He looked away nervously walking towards the slide.

"James! You liked me in fifth year?"

He nodded sheepishly, and I walked over to him and pushed him playfully. He took my hand in his and spun me around, picking me off the ground. I laughed and leaned up to kiss him. "But you didn't tell me until the end of sixth year."

"It was just a crush then you know? I admired your courage when you stood up against me... I fell for you in sixth year... do you remember?"

"No," I said looking up at him.

"We were presenting projects in Defense Against the Dark Arts..."

(Flash Back)

"The three Unforgivable's are used mainly by a group of followers called Death Eaters... the first is..." I walked towards the podium and accidentally kicked it over.

"Oh, sorry, Professor!" As I went to pick it up my parchment went flying all over the class. Everyone started laughing... and when I looked up Potter was looking over and smiling.

I ran around the room picking them up. "When you're ready Miss Evans," said the Professor sitting down at his desk and marking my written essay. I ran around the room continuing to pick up my project that was spread out. I pulled the hair out of my face as I saw that most of my papers were over by Potter.

"L-Lily," I heard him stutter out as he handed me a piece of parchment.

"Potter can I have that?" I asked pointing towards the parchment near his feet. He stared at me not moving at all. "Potter?!"

He shook his head, "Umm... I... I..."

I rolled my eyes and decided to just crawl down and get them myself.

"Scoring points with Evans, huh Prongs?" I heard Sirius say.

"I—I..."

I stood up and placed the parchment on his desk as I straightened out my robe.

"Evans go out with me!" he said confidently after a moment.

I stared at him strangely before picking up my work. "What did I tell you about asking me out?"

"But—but—"

"S—stut—tter much?" I said laughing, sharing a smile with my friends before walking up and putting my work back together and continuing with my assignment.

(End)

"Why do you think I stuttered?" he asked laughing.

"You didn't hold the care you do now," I said putting my hand on his cheek.

"Do you want to leave this place?" he asked looking around.

I looked up at him and then out towards the mini-park. "What do you have in mind?"

He shrugged. "We could... we could go to the... A bigger park."

I laughed, "I love you."

"I love you more."

"Are you sure about that?" I asked as he pulled me closer.

"I've loved you longer," he said leaning down to kiss me. He got me there and I looked up smiling. I sighed.

"Do you think Vernon and Petunia know?" I asked leaning my head on his chest.

"Yes... but in all honesty... I don't care," he said quietly.

"I think I do..."

"Why?"

"What if they tell my parents?"

"They have no proof," he said quietly.

"I don't want to lie," I countered. "If they ask I'm going to tell them yes."

He nodded, "I'll be by your side if you chose to tell them."

"Part of me is afraid to," I admitted.

"That's reasonable," he said giving me a small smile.

"Can... can you do me a favour?" I asked quietly.

"If I can..."

"Take me home."

"Sure," he said taking my hand in his.

"Your home."

He stopped in his tracks. "When and why?"

"Now... and to talk to your father."

"You know how I am," he said faintly.

"Please, love. I want to talk to him."

"About what?"

"About us."

"We don't need his blessing... we don't need him..."

"James," I said making him face me. "I need to tell him that we're together."

"We're not together," he said defiantly.

"But we want to be, right James?"

"I don't want to see him."

"You need to... you need to..."

"Not after the funeral."

"What happened?" I asked softly, pulling him onto the bench.

"He made me regret things, Lily, he made me regret terrible things."

"What things? Why are they so terrible?"

"He made me regret Sirius," he said quietly.

"What?" I asked softly. "How could you...?"

"He made me regret being his friend... made me regret bringing him to the funeral. I wanted my dad back, Lily. But I can't have him... he loves my best friend and he loved my mum..."

"He loves you... he does James."

"No, no he doesn't Lily. He could care less about me."

"You don't mean that," I said, tears filling my eyes.

"I regretted being born—"

I closed my eyes turned my head away from him.

"I'm sorry Lily, but it's the truth."

"How can you say that when you have me? When you have Sirius, Peter, Remus... when you have everything you'll ever need?"

"I didn't have it all then..."

"You don't need to have it all, James," I said quietly. "We have enough with our friends... you have my parents if you need them."

"One day," said James standing up. "One day he's going to miss me... when I'm gone. One day he's going to regret telling me that he... that I was an accident... that I never should have happened..."

Tears were freely falling down my face as I got up and pulled James into a hug.

"You have me," I said quietly. "You'll always have me. I love you. I want you around. I'm glad you're here... I'm glad you're alive."

James wiped the tears off my face and kissed me softly on the lips.

"You have all of me... you still have my love... you have my heart, my soul... and my body." I looked up at him and he looked away. "He's the reason you want to leave school, isn't he?"

James didn't answer. Instead he took me by the hand and Apparated to Hogsmeade where we acted like nothing happened. Where we ate dinner, talked about anything and everything, and even went shopping. When the sun was no longer visible I pulled James away from the ice cream parlour and I took him home. Unlike what happened the night before, James and I fell asleep in each others arms after a very small kiss and a very big I love you.
