Day Four
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------
I got up early the next morning as quietly as I could, so not to wake James. As I got up I climbed into the shower as quickly as I possibly could. The warm water, I'll admit, kept me in for longer than I had wished to. When I got dressed I saw James stir. Silently I prayed that he wouldn't wake up. So maybe I wasn't having one of my best ideas by going to confront his father before James was ready. But it was more of a situation where you don't ask when James will be ready; you ask why James won't go at all.
I know he's not going to want to confront his father. Part of me is debating whether or not I should go. But the side that said I should has been prevailing as of late. His father causes him more pain than anything in the world. And I hate it. I hate seeing James so upset; I cannot watch the man I love be troubled beyond belief. He has reason to, and I respect that, but I'm not promising anyone that I'm not going to try my hardest to change the way things are. One of the only problems I've been having was to figure out what I'm going to say.
"Where are you going?"
I jumped as I brushed my hair and turned to see James staring at me from his bed. His hair looked messy and his face was smiling at the sight of me. I tried to smile back and when I didn't he stood up and walked over towards me.
"Out," I answered quietly.
"Where?"
"Just to see someone," I said quickly, continuing to brush my hair. My eyes shifted as James stood next to me, to where he was visible in the mirror. "What?"
"Who are you going to see?" he asked more firmly this time.
"A man..."
"Why?" he asked, raising his eye brows.
"Because I have to settle something with him."
"Can I come?" he asked, resting his arms around my waist.
"You wouldn't want to," I answered dryly.
"Why?" he said laughing, "Do I know him?"
I didn't answer but I looked at the ground nervously. James deserves to know... I knew that, and I know I should tell him. But I can't. It can't be done; I have to talk to his father. I have to convince him to work things out with James. I have to bring them closer together, for everyone's sake.
"James..." I quietly shook my head, turning to face him. "You must let me do this... for you, for him, and for me."
Understanding seemed to dawn on his face and he stepped closer to me. "Lily... Lily you can't... I forbid you..."
"You can't tell me what to do!"
"You cannot go talk to my father!"
"I can and I will!" I yelled moving towards the door but he pulled me back.
"Why are you doing this to me?" he asked softly.
"I'm doing this for you," I said pulling him into a hug; clutching onto him and holding him as close as I could. "I'm doing this because you're in pain, James. Pain."
"Are you willing to lose our relationship over this?" he asked quietly, looking me in the eye.
"Are you willing to end our relationship over this?" I countered.
"I'm not ready—"
"You're never going to be ready James!" I said in exasperation.
"Then don't push me into this!"
"I'm not asking you to go!"
"You can't go."
"Why not?"
"'Cause my dad's going to have fun thinking I'm not man enough to go and fight my own battles. He's going to see me as a worse person—"
"James... then come with me," I whispered taking his hand in mine. "I'm going. Whether you come or not, it completely your choice."
"You can be so stubborn sometimes," he said looking away from me.
Letting go of his hand I cupped his face and leaned up to kiss him. "You love me." He opened his eyes slowly and stared into mine. "You know so much about me, James, and I to you. So you know I'm doing this for you... so you'll be okay."
"Me becoming better is not going to happen overnight, Lily."
I nodded, "I know, James. Which is why I'm going to be there by your side every step of the way."
He wrapped his arms around my waist and picked me up to kiss me. I knew what he was trying to do. He was trying to distract me. I knew my theory was true when he picked me up and carried me over towards the bed. When his hands moved to take off my shirt I knew that it would have to stop.
"James," I said as he kissed my neck. "James are you coming or not?"
He got off of me and sat on the bed in defeat. Running and hand through his hair he stared at me for a moment. "Lily..."
"No, your distraction didn't work, love. So are you coming?"
He looked up at me, and then stood up, kissing me on the cheek and walked towards the bathroom.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------
A half and hour later, we walked up the Potter's front porch towards the door. His grip increased on my hand as we reached the door. He looked over at me and I smiled reassuringly. Letting go of his hand I straightened his robe. He took my hand off his robe and leaned towards me.
"I'm not ready," he said quietly. He leaned down to kiss me on the lips. "I am now."
I smiled kissing him one more time but in the middle of our kiss the door opened and we both saw a wand pointed at us.
"James?" said Mr. Potter coming into view. "Sorry... I thought you guys were... well that's not important... Why don't you two come in and tell me what the bloody hell you two were doing on my doorstep snogging?"
I walked inside clutching James' hand to my hip. When we sat down James tensed up. I pulled his arm around me and leaned against his shoulder.
"What brings you two here, Lily?"
"We..."
"Oh don't tell me... you are actually his girlfriend?" asked James' father, and after taking a sip of his drink he started laughing. "Don't you think you could do better?"
"Are you drunk, Mr. Potter?"
He paid no mind, "Never could do a single bloody thing right. Came close by making the Quidditch team, I guess."
"Mr. Potter, are you all right?"
"What brings you here?" he asked more soberly.
"I came to talk to you about James," I replied softly.
"Get in trouble again? Bad influence on Sirius, I'll tell you."
I looked at James who closed his eyes, and breathed deeply. I stared at Mr. Potter. "Sir, will all do respect, how dare you talking about James like that?"
"Why are you defending the boy? He deserves no sympathy."
"I love him, for your information. As should you! This is your son. And he is one of the greatest people in the entire world."
"How can you possibly think that?" he said laughing, as though it was a joke. "He's just a stupid boy."
"He's one of the smartest of our year! He's always getting better grades—"
"Don't lie, Lily, that's not good for the soul."
"I'm not lying! I can't believe you're actually talking about your son like this. No less when he's here—"
"Lily, forget about it..."
"No, James, don't tell her to shut up. You shut up! I don't know why your mother let you back in this house! Your behaviour is ridiculous! How do you live with yourself?"
James stood up. "I'd rather be me then you any day, you old drunk!"
Mr. Potter stood up also. "Let's see how far you get in life, you ungrateful—"
"I hope you get killed by Voldemort—!"
"James—!"
"Go to hell, Dad!"
"See you there," said Mr. Potter throwing his drink at James who ducked out of the way.
"I can't believe my mother loved you—"
"She wouldn't be your mother if I had my way—"
"What? You were going to kill me?" asked James tauntingly.
"No! If I had my way you wouldn't have been born at all. But Mary insisted on having a little boy to take care of when I worked late... She wanted a son to carry on the name."
"I'm sorry I was such a disappointment to you!"
"You should be!"
"Well I'm not!" he said kicking a plant stand off the coffee table that stood between James and his father. I sat there horrified. James had tears falling down his face, and his father was laughing.
"You're just a bloody baby, James. Go on back to school and start crying! Go on... leave!"
"I wish you would have left when I was eight like you talked about!"
"What?!"
"Yeah, Dad. I heard you and Mum talking when I was eight. You told her you were going to leave, but she begged you to stay. Damn her for begging you to say!" he said wiping away the tears.
"Don't you dishonour your mother—"
"You're not the boss of me. You mean shit to me!"
"Well good! I mean more to you than you mean to me."
"Stop!"
"Lily stay out of this! Wait until Voldemort comes after you! Wait until he kills you! I'll come to your funeral and I'll spit on your grave! I'll laugh when I read the news! I'll smile when you get buried underground! Where you should be right now! Having worms eat your eye balls! Having worms live in your god damned carcass!"
Mr. Potter stared at James, his mouth opened wide. He sat back down on the couch and stared at the fallen plate. James was breathing heavily, looking around the room. I reached out and locked my fingers with his.
"James," I whispered, pulling him in a hug. I felt his chest go up and down as I rested my head on it. When I put my hand on his face I spoke more loudly. "I love you."
James' father started laughing. "For once in your life you've got someone who loves you." James closed his eyes. "Wait until this girl leaves you, James. Wait until she wakes up and realizes that you can't give her a bloody thing. She'll leave you once she realizes who you really are."
"I will not," I said firmly. "James I'm never leaving you... Never."
James took me by the hand and led me up the stairs towards his room. He pushed the door open roughly and walked in, holding my hand as he kicked some clothes of the floor. A scared House-elf ran out of his room and closed the door behind it. James began throwing a bunch of stuff in his closet and locking the door.
"He better not mess with my stuff," huffed James after a while. "Remind me to lock the door and put an anti-Apparating spell on my room when we leave."
I sat down on his bed with him. It was quite big; bigger than king size, with gold coloured sheets on it. He pulled me by the waist on top of him and started kissing me the way he did before we left to come here. I kissed back, noticing the way his kisses seemed needy and his grip seemed firm. He picked me off of him and onto the bed. His kisses became longer and more needy as he kissed more frequently, and in more places.
"James... what are you doing...?"
"I'm giving... I'm keeping you near me..." he said unbuttoning my shirt as he kissed me. I brought his attention back up to my face by kissing his lips.
"James... don't do this..."
"I'm keeping you Lily..."
"Of course you are," I said with a shaky voice.
"Come on, love, don't you want me?" he asked taking his own shirt off and leaning down to take off our shoes.
"James... this isn't going to help you... It won't help you get better..."
"For now it will," he said loudly. "I need you now Lily..."
"James this isn't going to do anything but make you feel good until we stop."
"I love you, Lily. I'm not going to lose you."
I sat up crossing my legs and I took his hand in mine. "Why do you want to do this, James?"
"Why do you not want to let me show you how much I love you?"
"I know how much you love me," I replied quietly.
"Let me be a good boyfriend, Lily!"
"You are a good boyfriend, already! You don't need to get me in bed to prove anything."
"What if my father is right? What if I lose you when you wake up one day and realize I'm not worth it? What happens when you leave me because you realize that I'm not good enough?"
"James... Along time ago when Sirius asked me to give you a chance... I told him I wasn't good enough for you."
"What?!"
"I did... and I'm not, James, I'm not good enough." I buttoned my shirt back up, but stopped when James reached out and took my hand in his.
"You're too good for me Lily... You're too good."
"No," I said taking my hand away. "I'm not James. I wouldn't give you the chance... I hated you..."
"I love you."
"I love you, too," I held my hand to his cheek.
"You love me, now, Lily. That's all I need... All I need is your love. I'll do anything to for you... to you..."
I shook my head. "We don't have to do this."
"Can't I prove it to you?" he asked, lying me back on the bed next to him.
"You don't need to..."
"But I need me to..."
I shook my head, again. "I don't... I can't. I'm sorry. Let's go home."
He put his hands on my hips and pulled me closer. "Please, Lily. Please, Lily... the first time was for you... this time I need it..."
I stared up into his hazel eyes and shook my head. "You aren't my boyfriend..."
"I thought we had gotten back together."
"You never asked."
"Will you be my girlfriend, Lily? And let me prove my love to you..."
"I love you," I said leaning up to kiss him.
As he tenderly pulled me closer, he took my shirt off and started kissing my chest. When I had reached down to take his belt off the door burst open and a good friend walked in.
"Sorry... sorry guys," he said covering his eyes.
"Damn," swore James. "What do you want, Padfoot?"
"There's been an attack..."
"Where?" I asked quietly pulling my shirt over, trying to button it quickly.
"A Muggle house near yours, Lily."
"What?" I shouted. "Come on... I've got to get home to my parents. James... come on!"
He belted his pants and threw on a shirt as quickly as I could before we Apparated to my house. When we got there we found the family eating dinner.
"How did you get here, Sirius?"
"Dumbledore sent me," he said shrugging, then grinned. "Sorry to bust in on your mood."
"What mood?" asked my father from the table.
"Nothing," I answered quietly, pulling both guys up the stairs, but I stopped when I heard Petunia.
"First she shags that James, and this Sirius character shows up and she takes them both up to her room. How can you trust her?!"
"Lily, what is your sister talking about?"
"I don't know," I answered quietly. "Come on, Sirius. Tell me about the attack."
As we reached the stairs James and I sat on the bed listening to Sirius pace and tell us about two hundred Muggles being murdered at the local mall around my house.
"Why did Dumbledore need to tell us?"
"He wanted to keep you guys prepared for the wedding," shrugged Sirius sitting on my desk chair.
"Are you coming to the wedding, Sirius?"
"I can't... but I'm coming to pick you guys up at the end of the week. Dumbledore doesn't want you two taking the train. We're supposed to Apparate to Hogsmeade and then walk over to Hogwarts."
I nodded, "Thanks for letting us know."
"So you guys finally did the dirty deed?" whispered Sirius. James stayed quiet and I nodded silently. "And!?"
"And what? Perhaps when you two get back to school you can talk about it."
"Right. So once you tell Dorcas, James will tell me, and we'll compare stories."
I rolled my eyes. "This has been a long day. Sirius, James had a fight with his dad."
"Thanks to you," he replied icily.
"I'm sorry, James. But you really need that confrontation... Sirius... watch out for James' dad."
"Why? What happened?"
I told him the story... it was clear in my mind; I remembered the yelling and I remembered the tears, phrases, and objects destroyed. At the end Sirius had his hand on James' shoulder.
"Are you okay?"
"I don't want to talk about it, Padfoot."
Sirius nodded, standing up. "I best get back to school. Good luck at the wedding tomorrow."
James and I said goodbye to Sirius who Apparated with a small pop. I changed into my pajamas quietly and climbed into my bed. James was still awake when I fell asleep...

"How can you possibly think that?" he said laughing, as though it was a joke. "He's just a stupid boy."
"He's one of the smartest of our year! He's always getting better grades—"

A/N: NEXT CHAPTER: Will not be out until I find fitting 70s wedding songs... so I can have some music for Lily and James to dance to. I probably only need two, but I'll take more if you guys can think of any I'll update quicker. I could use more so I don't have this problem with Lily and James' music at their wedding when I write it. Thanks for reading and reviewing, and PLEASE think of songs... you can email them to me if you want: sportygurl32849yahoo.com (encase you think of them after you review).
