Chapter 25: Day Five
SORRY: My parents didn't let me use this computer for a while. They thought I was online all night, or some rubbish like that. My mum's letting me go on because I've gotten so much feedback. THANKS! And SORRY!
A/N: You know it's really difficult to find songs for Vernon and Petunia's wedding. All the good love songs you guys sent me (THANKS by the way) are too good, and I want them for Lily and James who seem move lovey-dovey than Vernon and Petunia. I wrote a review for PoA on yahoo. (under sportygurl32849) I'll get the link when I upload it (hopefully).
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Day Five
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------
I woke up the morning of the wedding with the sun shining on my face. When I sat up in my bed I found the love of my life in the same position he was in the last time I'd seen him. Quietly I pulled the sheets off of me and walked towards his bed. Lying down next to him I put my hand on his face and turned him to look at me.
"James?" No answer. "James, did you sleep at all last night?"
He looked over at me, unexplainable emotion covered his face as he looked over at me, leaning in, and locking eyes.
"Come on love," I pursued. "You've got to wake up... we've got the wedding in less than two hours." He looked away frowning. "I know you're mad—"
"Mad?!" asked James, turning to face me, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"What can I do to make it up to you?" I asked softly.
He looked away again, after seeing the pain and regret that flushed over my face as I looked into his hazel eyes. He ran his hand over the bottom of my face as he turned to look at me again.
"You know what, Lil?"
"What?" I whispered shakily.
"You look so innocent," he replied looking deep into my eyes. I stared at him questioningly. "You've got that little girl smile. Nobody would believe you've been kissed before."
"Is that a good thing?" I asked uncertainly.
He touched my hair affectionately. I frowned slightly as he ran his finger over my lips. I looked down at the end of the bed then up at him. He looked at me and dropped his hand.
"That's it," he declared. "That's the look of innocence."
"I'm sorry," I apologized.
"Love—"
"James," I whispered, wrapping my arms around his neck. "I'm sorry for what happened yesterday."
When he didn't reply, oddly enough, my mind went through a flashback.
(Flash Back)
I was my regular twelve year old girl. Returning back from my first year at Hogwarts; and I admit I definitely had somewhat of an ego. It was a boy at Hogwarts that had me so ticked off, that I took it out on Petunia.
"MUM! She's talking rubbish again!"
"Petunia—"
"She pointed that... that thing at me and said something! CHANGE ME BACK FREAK!"
I rolled my eyes at my father. "I didn't do anything. Petunia's lying."
My mum threw her wash rag down in exasperation and she walked over towards us girls. My father stood up also, and walked towards her right, resting his arm around her shoulder. Petunia was scowling at me. And personally, I wasn't the slightest bit interested it what she had to say.
"And then she—"
"Mum," I interrupted, sitting down on the chair behind me. "There's this boy at school..."
My father and mother exchanged reproachful looks. "Lily—"
"Not that kind of boy," I replied coolly. "He's the most annoying git—"
"Lillian Marie Evans—"
"Sorry Mum. But he makes me so aggravated! He thinks he's the king of the world. And he keeps smiling at me—"
"He has a crush on you, stupid," snapped Petunia sitting down in the chair, now interested in the gossip, even if it was about me and the prat.
"He's such a prat, Mum."
"Lily—"
"I'm sorry but he makes me so mad!"
"He likes you," said my father, picking up the paper again. "But you're far too young to date, Lil—"
"I would NEVER date him!" I replied forcefully. "Not if you paid me a million pounds."
My mother smiled from the sink. "Calm down, Lily. Don't worry about this boy... What did you say his name was?"
"James Potter."
(End Flash Back)
"Lily?" called James' voice bringing my attention back to him. I smiled slightly, sitting up and walking towards the bathroom.
"Did I tell you how much I love you?" I asked smiling, from the doorway, grateful that he was there. Grateful that my mind had changed so much from the time I was twelve until now. Because my whole world was sitting in the bed, staring up at me with big hazel eyes. My whole would was making this wedding bearable, and my whole would was giving meaning to life after school. Because he was my life... my love... my world.
"I love you, too, Lil. You know that."

(Annie's Song by John Denver)
You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy, blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come, fill me again Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy, blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come, fill me again
"That's the best wedding song there is," I whispered as I sat in James' arms, rocking back and forth to the music which had just ended.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me outside. We walked out into the group of people who were outside the church. Petunia was quiet at Vernon's side, with his family talking about someone obviously very entertaining, as they were all laughing.
"You look very pretty in that dress," grinned James, he laughed then said, "I can't wait to help you take it off."
I hit him softly in the arm before walking towards the hill. The wedding was held inside the church, and oddly enough the reception was in the same spot as the wedding itself. Back when Petunia and I had gotten along we talked about how we wanted to get married. Petunia always wanted to have an indoor wedding; a proper wedding for a gentlemen and his wife. I always wanted an outdoor wedding. "In the snow," I had said to her. "He's the love of my life; I don't want a proper wedding... I want a loving one." My mum then made us go to bed, thankfully; Petunia was reading to counter my comment.
"What was that?" asked James pointing towards the tree we were walking towards. "It looked like a cloak."
I gripped James' hand tighter as we searched around the tree. "I think you thought you saw what you really didn't."
He nodded, sitting down on the bench. "Come here."
"I'm not sitting there," I replied quickly. "My dress will get all dirty."
"My pants aren't," he said patting the spot to his right.
"Your pants don't get dirty... my dress gets filthy if it drags down even a little bit."
"Fine," he replied, picking me up and sitting me on his lap. "Problem solved."
I smiled resting my head on his shoulder, as he wrapped his arms around me. "I'm so sorry about yesterday."
"I'm fine, Lil, honestly."
I met his eyes, resting my hand on the back of his neck. He rested his hand on my hip. I leaned up to kiss him softly on the lips. "I still feel awful. Your dad is..."
"Don't worry about it," he replied, kissing me again.
"Potter? Evans?"
I broke away from James quickly, opening my eyes slowly, and I saw a man in a cloak. "Who—who are you?"
"I'm Moody."
"Mad-eye?" choked James. "What are you doing here?"
"Patrolling the wedding," growled the man.
"Why? What's going on?"
"Nothing," replied the man roughly, "Just a couple dozen Aurors around the wedding, looking out for Death Eaters."
"My father's here?" asked James quietly. Moody nodded back. I saw my father and James' father away from the party talking in hushed voices. James looked away, as if trying to go unnoticed by his father. Unfortunately, my father brought James' father over towards us. Moody turned his attention, as did James, trying to look stronger than he felt.
"Lily," said Mr. Potter. "Nice to see you again. Son, looking sharp in that tux."
James looked away, his eyes hardening with hatred. My father stared between the three of us. His eyes fell on James and I; obviously finding our position disapproving. I took James hand in mine and rested back on his shoulder, making him bring his attention back on me. He leaned down and kissed me softly on the lips.
"Lily!" came the disapproving voice of my father; it was only a matter of time before he interfered with the way James and I displayed affection.
"What are you doing here?" I asked softly.
"Just trying to keep everyone safe," replied Mr. Potter. "Surely you couldn't feel protected with my son here. There are so many better wizards out there to protect you and your family, Lily. A lot more than James. Besides... after Mary... we can't lose all the pretty and intelligent magical people like you Lily."
I felt James move underneath me. Quickly he picked me up and placed me back on the ground. He walked back towards the church, half jogging half walking. My eyes fell to the ground.
"Kids," I heard Mr. Potter say walking away with Moody. "Mr. Evans?"
"In a moment," prompted my father, moving closer towards me. "Lily?"
I saw Moody and Mr. Potter cross the lawn. "What?"
"I'm sorry. I just... I can't get over the fact that you and James are more sentimental than Petunia and Vernon..."
"That's not it," I said softly. "James isn't upset about that..."
"Did you two fight?"
"No," I took a deep breath before speaking again. "He... he doesn't get along with his dad."
"What happened?" asked my father.
"His father... his father never wanted a son," I said barely audible.
My father pulled me into a hug. "Oh, Lily..."
"They... they had a big row, Daddy," I said softly, hugging back tightly. "James was really upset... a lot of words were thrown in. They... they said some really bad things... Wishing each other the worst of luck... He told James..."
"What, love?" asked my father.
"He told James that he wasn't good enough for me," I said, wiping a tear away quickly. "That James would never be able to have me love him... that James would lose me; that I would run away when I met the real James. That's... that's what happened yesterday."
"Tell me what happened after the row," he said sitting down on the bench.
"After they ended their fight, James took me up to his bedroom," I said softly, sitting down on the bench, not caring about my dress now. "He... he needed me..."
"Lily," ordered my father loudly.
"We didn't..." his face soften as I told him. "We... just kissed a lot. Then Sirius came... he told us about the attack on Muggles. He'll be here in two days to bring us to school... we're not taking the train. But... James was really upset after the row."
My father hugged me tightly towards him. I felt as though I had betrayed James by telling my father what had happened. But I felt as though I needed to tell him what had happened with James and I physically... I needed to be guilt free. My father was under the impression that James and I hadn't done anything... that's what I told Mum after all.
"Daddy... James and I..."
"What, pumpkin?" he asked quietly, looking at me expectantly.
"James and I... we've... we've..." I sighed, closing my eyes. "James and I made love."
"What... when?" he asked softly, yet forcefully. I'd rather he'd been screaming at me.
"The other night... after we went shopping for our wedding outfits," I answered quietly. "Don't be mad, please, Daddy. I... I love him and it was my first... and it was... it was so beautiful. It was so perfect. I love him sooo much... more than I can explain. More than words can describe... I live for him, Daddy."
"Mr. Evans? A word if you please."
My father ran a hand through his hair, but stood up, following Mr. Potter towards my mother and Moody. I exhaled the breath I had been holding. Quickly I walked towards the church. James was sitting at a table as the music played. I walked up to him and he looked at me, a frown visible on his face. I leaned down and took his hand in mine.
"We need to talk... dance with me," I said quietly. He stood up and followed me towards the dance floor as a new song began to play.
(Best of My Love; Eagles)
Every night I'm lyin' in bed
Holdin' you close in my dreams,
Thinkin' about all the things that we said
And comin' apart at the seams.
We try to talk it over but the words come out too rough.
I know you were tryin' to give me the best of your love.
Beautiful faces and loud empty places, look at the way that we live.
Wastin' our time on cheap talk and wine left us so little to give.
That same old crowd was like a cold dark cloud that we could never rise above
But here in my heart I give you the best of my love.
"James," I began, holding myself as close to him as possible. "My... my dad knows about what happened yesterday."
James stared at me, and I looked away, my face full with guilt. I entwined my fingers with his, in a reassuring manner.
"He thought he was the reason you ran away from the group... and I told him it was because you didn't get along with your father. But... James... I did something worse."
As my voice became shaky and high pitched, he brought his attention back to me, running a hand through my hair.
"James," but it wasn't my voice this time. James' father appeared in the entrance way.
O-O-O-OH SWEET DARLIN' you get the best of my love
YOU GET THE BEST OF MY LOVE
O-O-O-OH SWEET DARLIN' you get the best of my love
YOU GET THE BEST OF MY LOVE
I'm goin' back in time and it's a sweet dream,
it was a quiet night and I would be alright if I could go on sleeping.
He walked towards us, and I felt James tense up. I closed my eyes, breathing in and out, and expecting the worse.
"I'm sorry about yesterday," his father said, stopping next to us. James continued to keep a pace and dance with me. I half wanted to walk away... I honestly had done enough and caused enough pain. "I want to make it up to you, Son. Let's go to a Quidditch match this weekend. I hear there's a big one in Bristol—"
"I've got school," he said coldly, rocking me back and forth as though saying he was sorry he was acting this way.
"James..."
"No," he said bluntly. "I'm here with my girlfriend... my girlfriend who loves me. Which is more than you can say... more than you can give. I've got friends and Lily. I don't need you, Dad."
"You used to need me—"
"I used to think you cared," said James, looking away. I rested my head on his chest. Not meeting eyes with James or his father. His arms rest on my back, and I rested one hand on his shoulder, the other was near my face. Right now I was completely happy that James could hold me in his arms, and looking forward, he could see over my head; like I wasn't there at all. I was breathing as quietly as I could. Afraid for no apparent reason, that something extremely bad was going to happen.
But every mornin' I wake up and worry what's gonna happen today.
You see it your way and I see it mine but we both see it slippin' away.
You know we always had each other, baby, I guess that wasn't enough.
Oh, but here in my heart I give you the best of my love.
O-O-O-OH SWEET DARLIN YOU GET THE BEST OF MY LOVE (THE BEST OF MY LOVE)
O-O-O-OH SWEET DARLIN YOU GET THE BEST OF MY LOVE (THE BEST OF MY LOVE)
O-O-O-OH SWEET DARLIN' every night and day YOU GET THE BEST OF MY LOVE (THE BEST OF MY LOVE)
O-O-O-OH SWEET DARLIN' oo-oo-oo-oo oo-oh
The song ended, but I still kept my head on James' chest. I still didn't move at all. The crowd was clapping. Over some heads I saw Vernon and Petunia enter the dance floor."Come on, Lil," James' voice brought back my thoughts and I followed him out of the church, his dad coming behind us. James moved so quickly I had to run to keep up with him, and quite frankly, so did his dad. "Faster!"
"James," I panted, following him up to the same hill side.
"What happened?" he asked quickly, but saw his dad coming. "LILY! WHAT HAPPENED?!"
I looked at James, horror on my face. "I... I told my dad what we did... I told him we shagged."
James looked away, falling back into the tree, and while resting his head on the bark, he closed his eyes. His father ran back up the hill and stopped right in front of the tree.
"James!"
"Dad, I'm not going anywhere with you! I don't want to see you... Go away!" he ordered, his eyes still closed. "I don't want to be around you. I don't want anything to do with you."
"James—"
"I'm having a private conversation with my girlfriend," he said loudly, reaching out and taking my hand.
"I—"
"Lily, James... why don't you head back to the house and go to sleep," said my mother from opposite Mr. Potter. "Your father and I will talk to you guys in the morning. The wedding will be ending in about an hour anyway. Go on... go on."
I looked over at James... We Apparated home, and thankfully James made it in one piece... I was afraid that he was too emotional to Apparate. When he got ready for bed, I made him some hot cocoa to drink and we just sat on the couch contently.
"You told him?" he asked quietly. "What did he say?"
"Nothing... your dad came over to talk to him."
"Best thing he's ever done," replied James, taking a sip of his drink.
I wrapped my arms around James waist, leaning over to kiss him. "I think the best thing he ever did was conceive you."
James kissed the top of my head, placing his glass down on the table. I closed my eyes after I saw that James had closed his.
"Tomorrow we're never going to hear the end of it," muttered James.
"It's not like we didn't use protection," I looked up at James, opening my eyes. "We did use protection, right?"
He smiled at my stupidity. "Not Muggle protection."
"I can't get pregnant can I?" I asked uncertainly.
"The purpose of protection isn't to get you pregnant, Lil."
I rested my head on his chest. "That will take a while to explain. My parents will have wanted us to use the Muggle way."
I felt James shrug. "I suppose it will."
"James... oh, God, I love you so much," I said clutching him close to me.
"I'm sure the Mudblood lover loves you too," said an icy voice from above us. I sat up in James' arms after feeling every bone in my body go icy cold.
"What are you doing here?" I asked barely above a whisper. "Why did you come here in person?"
James stood up taking out his wand. "Felt like killing Dumbledore's favourite couple."
"Why not send a Death Eater?" I asked, with more confidence than I felt. I could tell my voice was giving James confidence, as he stared at Voldemort with determination; I too stood up and took out my wand. James pulled me behind him protectively.
"I can handle taking care of myself!" I exclaimed loudly.
"Lily..." said James, in a voice dangerously low.
"James... I'm not afraid," I said though part of me was.
"How darling... the little couple is fighting. I'll give you a moment to make up," laughed Voldemort. "Call this your last chance to speak to each other. I know you wouldn't want to die while you were fighting... here's my present to you."
"I guess we're special aren't we?" James said smiling. "For Voldemort to kill us in person, huh Lil?"
"CRUCIO!"
"JAMES!"
He twitched lightly on the ground. I looked over at him, then at Voldemort who was laughing. "Take it off him! He didn't do anything to you!"
"Foolish Mudblood," laughed Voldemort, turning his wand towards me. "CRUCIO!"
I felt extraordinary pain, but something inside of me was able to fight it off. He didn't hit me as directly as he hit James, so I stood up and yelled aloud.
"Expelliarmus!" I yelled, making Voldemort go unbalanced, but still on his feet with his wand at hand. "Impedimenta!"
This made Voldemort fall to his back side, but he quickly stood up and walked towards me again.
"LILY! RUN!" yelled James who was getting to his feet and advancing on Voldemort.
"Take your best shot," said Voldemort in a voice that made you unable to tell he was infuriated with me.
"Petrificus Totalus!"
"CRUCIO!"
"Lily!" exclaimed James, as Voldemort stumbled back and quietly fell to the ground.
"What?" I asked, adrenalin flowing.
"You used an Unforgivable," said James, his eyes going wide.
"Well—!" But my answer was cut off as I heard the music fill the room. Suddenly I saw a phoenix fly into the room.
"What the—"
Pop! As soon as I saw part of the cloak I new it: Dumbledore was here. And just as Voldemort regained his nerves he stood up, face-to-face with Dumbledore.
"Hello Tom," said Dumbledore as calm as you please. James pulled me over and held me protectively, and this time I didn't object. "The Aurors are coming," said Dumbledore, his eyes going soft and sparkling still.
"Foolish Muggle lover," said Voldemort.
"Foolish, Tom... very foolish of you to come here and try to kill my students."
Voldemort's cold eyes glared. I stared over at James who was pulling me towards the hallway. Dumbledore stepped closer to us, as the phoenix distracted Voldemort.
"Apparate to James' house," he ordered quietly, so Voldemort wouldn't hear. A spell was shot Dumbledore's way, and James grabbed my hand.
"Let's go."
As soon as we Apparated to James' house I hit the solid floor and what happened next never registered in my mind.

A/N: Here's more... A lot has been going on and I can't really say it... my best friend knows... and that's really important so I'm pretty good and I think I'll be okay with writing for the next few days. I've been having writing with-drawls... where I didn't want to write... where I didn't want to do anything. Well... here's more... I'll have more up later.
