Day Seven
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------
I woke up the next morning feeling as if someone had dropped a boulder on my head the night before. James, bare-chested mind you, was asleep to my left. His eyes were shut and his breathing was at a soft normal pace; I was glad to say he didn't snore. I studied him for a moment; before I snapped out of my reverie. His black hair lay messily on his forehead and honestly, it was the cutest way I've ever seen it. Reaching out I pushed his hair out of his eyes. Titling my head to the right I smiled at the sight of him.
Why had I gotten all tongue-tied in front of Amos like I had? Why didn't I set the scene like I should have? I should have claimed James as mine instead of forgetting he was in the room. James has a right to be mad... a right to be jealous. Because I did remember the Amos that was popular and loved by all. For a moment I forgot that James was the reason for everything; I forgot he's my world. But is it really that simple? To forget about a new love because of an old one?
I ran my hand over his face, down his neck, and rested on his chest. His chest lightly moved up and down peacefully. I rested my head near my hand, listening to his heart beat while I ran my fingers over him making patterns; spelling our names, drawling hearts and smiley faces... When I looked up at him his eyes were open. I smiled before leaning up and kissing him. Surprisingly he kissed back wrapping his arms around me.
"You're not just trying to convince me you have no feelings for Diggory, are you?"
I kissed him again in substitute for an answer I wasn't willing to give. Out of spite I noticed a shirt hanging out of his drawer. Reaching over I pulled it out and smiling, I brought it towards me. It was a Hogwarts Quidditch shirt with the 'Gryffindor Chaser' on it. I quickly unbuttoned the blouse I had accidentally fallen asleep in; James propped himself up on his elbows, smiling broadly and raising his eyebrows. I rolled my eyes, throwing the blouse at him, so it would cover his eyes. He pulled it off, but too late, I already had his shirt on me.
"No fair," he exclaimed, reaching out to touch me. I moved from his hands and looked into his drawers again. "What are you doing?"
"Stealing your clothes," I muttered lazily, searching drawer after drawer and picking out the shirts I wanted. I saw James roll his eyes from the bed, sitting up and reaching down to kiss me. I gave him a small kiss back and walked into the bathroom changing into a pair of his boxer shorts. When I walked out he turned to look at me shaking his head.
"I don't steal your clothes," he countered.
"I suppose that would be a bit creepy," I said thoughtfully, walking towards the door. "See you down stairs."
My parents were downstairs with Mr. Potter sharing a pot of coffee made the magic way. I suppose they were astounded by the plentiful amount of magical objects the Potter's own. I walked over to the fridge to get myself some water to drink. The adult eyes followed me and I smiled to myself.
"Excuse me while I take a quick shower," I heard Mr. Potter say before he ran up the stairs.
My father put his glass on the table roughly looking up at me. I smiled broadly to him. "Hello, Father. Hello, Mum."
"I like the shirt... is that the position James plays?" asked my mother conversationally.
"Yeah... I took it from his this morning," I said walking towards the cabinet looking for a snack; I wasn't particularly up for a big breakfast.
I walked towards the hallway not finding anything I wanted. James was there when I walked towards him; he couldn't see my parents as he swept me up into his arms and kissed me repeatedly.
"James!" I said warningly as he spun me around in his arms.
"What?" he asked, kissing me on the lips after not waiting for an answer.
"Stop—"
"Why?"
"Because—"
"What? Is Diggory here?" he asked, losing his loving actions.
"This has nothing to do with, Amos. Don't my kisses prove that what happened yesterday was a mistake? I didn't mean to act that way... I saw him for the first time in years—"
"I know, Lil... But you and him were together longer than us—"
"We're still together," I replied. "It's not like I'm wearing his clothing right now—"
"That's clothing. This isn't about clothing, Lily," he said looking away. I reached out to touch his cheek and he stared down at me. "You and him were together for what? Six months?"
"More like five," I countered.
"We haven't even been together for five... and we've faced a lot more—"
"We've faced a lot more... but we're still together," I said solemnly. "We can get through this. James...
"What I said yesterday was a mistake," I said quietly. "I didn't mean to get so caught up in the moment. But I love you, James. Love and like are two different things—"
"You didn't love, Amos?" he asked quietly, looking into my eyes like I looked into his when I was searching for answers. I had loved Amos... I remember all the good times we had had clearly...
(Flash Back)
He pulled my hand lightly, pulling me into the Three Broomsticks. Grinning, he led me to his favourite table; or at least, that's what he had told me. After we ordered he sat me down and went to get the drinks. His arm subconsciously wrapped around me as I leaned over to kiss him. His kisses were nothing new... our relationship was quite stable, really, but it was quite boring.
I still loved to be in his arms. Touch his gorgeous hair. Scowl at James Potter who would be staring. Not that that mattered... But I loved the way he could make situations suitable for all the people around him. I love the way he thought of other people over himself. I love the way he can only be more than a friend to me. I love him.
"I love you, Lily..." he said, kissing me lightly on the lips again. He handed me a promise ring... it was fantastic... it was brilliant.
"Oh... Amos, I don't know what to say," I replied in panic.
"You don't have to say anything, love."
But as he leaned over to kiss me... the thought of what to say was move clear then ever. I kept telling myself to break off the kiss and tell him too... Just whisper it... my mind was screaming to Amos, but my mouth wouldn't speak...
'I love you, too...'
(End)
But never... never had I loved Amos as much as I love James. Never did I love Amos one ounce of how much I love James. There's no comparison. Never had I told Amos, even, of the feelings I had felt... he'll never know. And I don't want him to know. Because it would only make things harder between James and I.
"You loved him, Lil," James whispered, turning away, and dropping his hold.
"I did James, okay?"
"And that makes it okay now?!"
"I never said that! I never said I love him! I don't any longer! I love you—"
"This can't be happening," he said, ruffling his hair. "You're in love with... with him."
"I don't love him anymore! I didn't even love him half as much as I love you! I love you a hundred times more!" I replied, pulling him towards me, fighting back the tears. James shook his head, looking away.
"I don't know what's worse... you only wanting me at home... or you only wanting to work because of him—"
"Neither being the case!" I interrupted. "I want you to work with me and I want to work as an Auror regardless of my partner... You know that..."
He ruffled his hair, "You're right... you're right I did know that. But I didn't know you were in love with Amos Diggory."
"'Were' being the key word. I don't love him anymore! For goodness sake! I'm marrying you—"
"You're getting married!?" exclaimed four voices. James and I turned to see: my mum, dad, Sirius, Crouch, and Amos (who hadn't opened his mouth to counter my comment). Amos was the one who looked like he was thinking one of two things: 1) he doesn't care, we can do what we want... or 2) he does care... a lot. But after I saw his look again I realized what it did mean. He had just heard me state that I loved him... that I loved him and never told him... and now I'm getting married to James... Well, kind of...
"I want to get married to you," I replied in return. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you... work together, have kids together, die together... share everything from last name to candle-light dinners. I want you to be the man I spend all of forever with. If I live for two more months or one hundred more years I want to spend them with you—"
James pulled me closer to him. "Save all that for our wedding vows," he said laughingly.
"You're getting married?"
"Over my dead body!"
"Lily, can I have a word with you?"
James looked up questioningly but didn't stop me from following Amos into the living room. Amos ran a hand through his hair, messing it up and looking like he feels overwhelmed.
"When?"
"When?"
"When did you fall in love with me?" he asked.
I knew James and Sirius were listening in on our conversation but I pretended they weren't; I sighed. "Hogsmeade weekend... when you told me you loved me... I was going to tell you I loved you too..."
"Lily," he said sitting down. "If I'd have known... we could still be together..."
I shook my head no, sitting down next to him. "We broke up for reasons—"
"The only reason why I broke up with you is because I didn't think you loved me either... I thought I was in this relationship by myself."
"You weren't—"
He ruffled his hair anxiously. "Yeah... I know that now."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Amos. But it was meant to be this way."
"Meant to be? How?" he asked looking up at him.
I sighed again, "If we wouldn't have broken up... I would have never fallen for James... We broke up so I could fall in love with James."
"You believe that?"
"With all of my heart... yes." I was about to walk away but I turned back. "I can understand if you don't want to work with me anymore."
"I... I'll be okay by the end of your school year... I'll get over you somehow..." Kissing Amos on the cheek I apologized with my eyes and left the room. James and Sirius were sitting in chairs... but I know they had listened; whether I'd tell them I knew or not, depends on the situation. Fortunately they didn't see me.
"Well you can't right forget about everything with Diggory, can you?" asked Sirius. "I mean... she'll think it's a bit—off—if you turn back to Mr. Loving Boyfriend."
"I suppose you're right... What shall I do?"
"Go with the same stuff as before. Don't mention Diggory... but act like you need a little distance... make her kiss you."
I laughed to myself. He wants to make me kiss him? Well... if it's a kiss he wants... it's a kiss he gets.
"You think that'll work?"
"Trust me."
"Don't I always?" laughed James. "So when she comes over I—?"
"Acknowledge her presence... but don't act all romantic. If she sits on your lap, and plays with your hair, do not kiss her! You hear me? Don't kiss her. Hug her goodnight... make her kiss you!"
"So basically resist whatever she throws at me... until she kisses me. Then can I kiss back, Master Padfoot?" mocked James.
"Don't act like you've been awaiting it," instructed Sirius. "Act taken aback... and kiss... innocently—"
James coughed. "Don't kiss back? Is that what you're saying!?"
"Think about it," said Sirius laughing. "Instead of you leading the kiss—I won't give details of course, bloody gross—make her lead. Make her kiss you hungrily like you kiss her hungrily."
Oh, Baby! I'm holding this against Sirius for a LONG time! He actually thinks I need to kiss James as much as James needs to kiss me? Get real. Honestly... Dorcas will enjoy this story. So James Potter's going along with this plan? He actually thinks that I'll kiss him first...?
"Are you sure?"
"Man," said Sirius. "She's already talking about marriage. That's like sharing a last name with your snog buddy—"
"So, do you talk to Dorcas like this?" asked a laughing James.
"I'm just making things more interesting! Will you try it?" James shrugged then nodded. "Brilliant!"
"Hi guys!" I said, sitting down on James' lap. Good start, I thought to myself. Sirius grinned at James and I pretended not to notice. "What have you been talking about?"
"Quidditch," answered James from underneath me.
"Dumbledore wants us back at Hogwarts—"
"You two Apparate to my place... I'll say goodbye to Mum and Dad."
Once they were gone I went upstairs to get the shirts I wanted to take from James and I walked downstairs to find my parents talking.
"We're going back to Hogwarts," I said. "Goodbye Mummy." I hugged her and kissed her on the cheek. "Daddy." I hugged him and awaited his kiss. Smiling I saw my mum tell him, quietly, to kiss me on the forehead; and he did. I waved goodbye again and Apparated down to the kitchen of my house. Sirius and James were upstairs talking when I came in. Once again they didn't notice me. How they got away with all these pranks, I really do wonder sometimes.
"Have fun tonight," laughed Sirius. "She's a feisty one."
"Are you talking, Padfoot?" asked James throwing a shoe at Sirius. "Don't talk about her in bed like that—"
"That bad?" inquired Sirius, who hand easily caught the shoe and thrown it in James' trunk.
James rolled his eyes. "No... not 'that bad!'" he said mockingly, making Sirius' voice sound ridiculous. "I just don't want you talking about my girlfriend, in my bedroom, doing things with me!"
Sirius rolled his eyes. "You're in the clear, you know? You've got Lily Evans exactly where you want her!"
I raised my eyebrows at this comment; apparently James did too. "And where exactly do I 'want her'?"
"She's ready to marry you... have kids with you! Need I remind you of how babies are made, young Prongsie?"
James threw a shoe again. "There's more to girls than shagging, Padfoot. Man, I don't like to be around you when you're randy. When we get to Hogwarts you leave Lily and I alone. Dorcas is the only one who wants you this way."
Sirius laughed bark-like, holding his side after he finished. "You—just—called—me—randy—RANDY!" he exclaimed in between laughs.
James shot him a glare again, but rolled his eyes and started grinning. "Guess what I did the first day we got here?"
"When you and Lil were still on slightly bad terms?" he asked, regaining his composure.
"Yeah," laughed James. Oh... he wasn't... "I went through her knickers!"
"You didn't!?" Sirius hit James then said. "YOU DID! You randy bastard! Nice, eh? I can tell from your face... Where might I find this beautiful—"
"What beautiful thing are you finding?" I asked coming into the room. James looked at the floor anxiously then up at Sirius, giving him a warning look.
"Nothing, Lil, nothing... Quidditch... broomstick... guy stuff."
I rolled my eyes, packing my trunk with the flick of my wand. We grabbed the trunks and quickly Apparated to Hogsmeade. Silence was held until we reached the castle and up to the Heads room. After setting James' trunk in his room they came into mine.
"Can we help you unpack?" asked Sirius.
I laughed. "No thanks."
"Wow... why didn't we think to use magic?"
"Maybe because you wanted to discuss something important... so you wanted to take your time... not be feisty... or... you know... make sure you packed your knickers right?"
I walked towards the door, seeing the boys gape. Right before I closed the door I heard James mutter something in a horrified voice.
"She knows!"

A/N: I know it was supposed to be a whole day... and I know 8 pages are not a lot, but I wanted to end it right here... where I thought it was really funny. And then I'm writing another one-shot. My favourite American baseball team is on a ten game winning streak so I want to go watch their game! GO RAYS!!
