Amos Returns

My parents looked up from their drinks as they saw me pop into the kitchen with the three boys along side me.

"Lily? What's going on?"

"They're okay," I said sighing in relief as James pulled me into a hug.

"Who? Us? Lily, tell us what's going on."

"I—I..." I tried to get out the words that needed to come out, but I couldn't. How do you tell your parents that you came here expecting them to be dead? How do you tell your mum that you were afraid you would never see her again? How do you tell your father you were already prepared to cry.... That you were ready to battle for their lives? I can't do it; James sensed it...

"When... we—err—where walking around school we heard these two people talking," he sighed. "Someone is coming here to attack you."

"Why?"

James even looked confused at my mother's terrified face. "They talked about... revenge of some sort."

"But we didn't do anything! Why would they want to hurt us—?"

"Why did they want revenge on you, Lil?" Sirius asked too.

"Because I had caught them before—I guess because I'm doing really well in the Order—and I suppose they... wanted James and I to back off a little."

My mother's face paled, but Remus stepped forward. "Um... hullo. Nice to meet you both. I'm Remus Lupin—a friend of James and Lily from school..."

My father shook his hand. "Nice to meet you. But why—?"

"I came here to help Lily, Sirius and James bring you somewhere safe—"

James looked at his watch. "We best leave within the next two minutes."

"What about our home? Will they destroy it?" asked my mother horrified.

I stared at the boys; none of us had thought of that. "I suppose you can just bring the valuables with you, of course. But most will have to stay—I'm sorry—"

I smiled sadly at Remus who was trying to make the best of the situation. "Don't be sorry... you're saving our lives."

For the next couple minutes Sirius followed my mother around the house taking things that she wanted to keep safe; Remus did the same for my father. But James followed me up to my bedroom where I looked around for things I'd need.

"I don't—"

"Just pack some stuff," said James quietly, our hands attached.

"The only things I need are you and my parents—I don't need any of my belongings..."

James smiled sadly, pulling me into a hug. "If you're sure then we'd best leave now."

I sighed going over towards my desk and picking up my photo album. It held family pictures... pictures of my friends at school and at home, and newly it held pictures of James and I. We were smiling in the lot of them. One that was special to me had my father, mother, Petunia, Vernon, James and I all in it. We were smiling on her wedding day. And it seemed if for only one moment Petunia and I were friends again and nothing could come between us. Foolish—

"Come on," he said pulling me down the stairs.

"James... you and I will Apparate with Mr. Evans; Sirius and Lily will go with Mrs. Evans."

Everyone nodded and linked arms with their partners before Apparating into the Lupin's household. Sitting inside the old-fashioned living room was a tall man, with thin hair. He jumped as Remus entered.

"Remus? What are you doing here? Hello James, Sirius," he nodded politely.

"'Lo Mr. Lupin," said Sirius.

"We're here—"

"On a rescue mission!"

"A rescue mission?" asked Mr. Lupin. He turned to see me and my parents who were a little shaken up from the Apparation trip. "And who is this pretty young lady?"

I smiled lightly blushing. "This is Lily and her parents—"

"You've brought your girlfriend and her parents' home to meet me?" he asked quietly.

Everyone in the room went silent. My parents stared at the lot of us; James, Sirius and I stared at Remus.

"This is James' girlfriend actually," he said blushing deep scarlet. "Her... her parents are a target—"

"For You-Know-Who?"

Remus smirked slightly at the fact that his dad couldn't say Voldemort's name. I frowned. "Yeah..."

"Pleasure to meet you." He shook my parents' hands. "I'm William Lupin—but you can call me Will." Remus blushed as his father turned to him. "When am I meeting your girlfriend's parents?"

"Thanks for letting us come here... Lily's very interested in the Order so... we're all..." my father didn't finish his sentence. "I'm Richard Evans... this is my wife Rose."

"I don't have a girlfriend," Remus said blushing... I smiled resting my head on James' chest.

"Lily's in the Order?"

"James and I are going into it—we're not officially there yet—are you?"

"Oh... I can't... I'm... I just didn't want to risk leaving Remus—didn't want him to be on his own."

"I understand." Though Mr. Lupin might not know that I know of Remus' condition, I truly understood. I didn't plan on telling Mr. Lupin any time soon, anyway. James had told me that he, Mr. Lupin, had lost his wife to Voldemort. He didn't want Remus to go through that pain again.

"What's going on?" asked Remus, noticing the tea on the table. "Have you got guests? Surely not a woman—"

Remus' father sighed. "If you don't want me to date her just say so! And no, ministry officials."

Remus didn't answer but someone else walked into the room. "I'd dump her too. Way to tell him Remus. I don't like that broad, anyway."

We all turned around to see Amos Diggory smirking from the kitchen table. I smiled at him and James gave a little—but rather merciful—nod.

"We're just friends for your information, Amos," replied Mr. Lupin light- heartedly.

"Sure, sure. What are you lot doing here?" he asked, sipping his tea.

"Mum and Dad are—well... I've caught wif of another attack that the Death Eaters are planning. My mum and dad were the target so we took them here."

"Oh—how very rude of me—sit down, will you?" asked Mr. Lupin gesturing towards the chairs where everyone sat down. I felt James' grip tighten. When I looked at him questioningly I saw his eyes avert to Amos, who I noticed was sitting to my left. Everyone else was seated except Sirius who I had run to use the toilet.

"You've got N.E.W.T.'s coming up, haven't you?" he asked patting my knee lightly. I bit my tongue and nodded silently.

"Where's Dumbledore—do you know?" James asked, running his hand up and down my back.

"Not a clue—Crouch might know," Amos said lightly.

Sirius had come back into the room, and stood up; all the seats were taken. I agreed with myself on the quick plan I had just come up with. I slipped up onto James' lap, and Amos' hand dropped; I saw James smirk and my parents look at us questioningly.

"Sit here, Sirius. There's enough room."

"Thanks, Lil."

I winked at him as I sat down. Mr. Lupin spoke suddenly. "You're not thinking of joining it too, are you Remus?"

Amos stared blankly but didn't comment; he must have found it wasn't his place to speak up. Remus nodded. "We were all going to do it—"

"And your girlfriend?"

"Dad.... I don't have a girlfriend!"

"Nonsense—you owled me about her just the other day. What's her name?"

"She's not my girlfriend..."

"Oh... you've taken a fancy so her, is that it?" Mr. Lupin pondered for a moment. "Her name is..."

James and I exchanged smiles as I leaned against his back. Our faces touched each other, and I turned to kiss him on the cheek a couple times. On the fourth time he kissed me on the lips. Sirius and I exchanged looks and when James closed his eyes to lean in to kiss me again, Sirius moved in and James ended up kissing his cheek. James opened his eyes and saw that it was Sirius not me, and he yelled loudly, causing the group to laugh.

James mock glared at me, then ending up running his hand through that particular sensitive spot that always made me jump. I hated and loved it when he tickled me there. (A/N: Not THAT spot... everyone's got that ticklish spot—mine's right around my neck and shoulders... I'm just too lazy to think of a spot for Lily) I suppose that moment would always be worth it. James leaned over to kiss me again, and he cupped my face this time, making sure that it wasn't Sirius. We exchanged hi-fives and James pretend to be upset.

"Marla... no... Lene... Mar... Marlene! That's the name!" he replied triumphantly.

"You fancy Marlene?" I asked loudly. My mouth dropped but it soon ended with me grinning. "Remus has a crush! Remus has a crush! Remus has a crush! Remus has a—"

"What are you? Five?" asked James loudly.

I stared. "I don't think five year old kiss like me." I attempted to snog him, but my father cleared his throat and I ended the kiss with a soft sucking noise.

James was grinning as I leaned back smirking. "No... no... definitely more like an eighteen year old kissing..." He leaned in to whisper. "My turned..."

I dodged his lips. "Later," I muttered slyly, looking around at the group. Remus had stopped blushing so much, I saw. "So... I have to hook up Marlene and Remus now?"

Remus shook his head. "I'd rather not—no—no thanks Lily."

I smiled. "You can't stop me from trying!"

"Thanks a load, Dad," muttered Remus looking away.

"When are you lot going back to Hogwarts?"

"Um... I'm not sure..."

"Remus don't you want to show Lily your room?" asked James quietly, raising his eyebrows.

Remus shrugged. "If she wants."

We could hear the adults talking when we left the room, going quickly up the stairs. Remus room was off the same style as the foyer down below. It was a big king-size bed with brownish-gold coloured sheets. His walls were a pale blue and he had a desk with books around it. His dresser had a couple clothes here-and-there popping out and his wardrobe had the same.

"I love it," I replied in awe. "I wish my room was like this!"

Remus blushed slightly, running his hands over the old oak-wood desk. James came up behind me and kissed me hard. I stumbled slightly, but regained it quickly and kissed him back. I broke it off and turned back to Remus.

"That bed—"

"We didn't come up here to talk about Remus' bed," said James whiningly.

I smiled. "We're not snogging in front of these two."

"Leave," muttered James; I hit him softly.

"Great friend you are—telling us to leave so you can snog a girl! Why I'd NEVER—!"

We broke into laughter as Sirius continued to mumble about how he loved his friends way more than a good snog. But he ended up grinning. We stopped laughing when we heard someone walk into the room.

Amos rubbed his neck nervously. "Hey Lily. Can I talk to you for a moment?"

"Sure... I'll be right back... We'll be right out in the hall." I felt their eyes follow me and Amos, and when we reached the middle of the hall I knew the boys were watching from the doorway. As soon as we stopped walking I opened my mouth to ask Amos if something was wrong. But I didn't get very far.

It's not often you have an old love's soft lips upon your own. It's definitely not a good sign that you are pulled closer. Half of me wanted to wait until James stopped him... but I knew I had to stop him. I pushed away, his hands still on my hips as he stared at me, breathing deeply. After a moment he dropped his hold and walked down the stairs.

I heard a soft thump and looked up at the guys; James had sat on the bed inside Remus room. It looked like I kissed back; Oh, God, it did. But did I? .... No. I took a shaky step towards the door and found James sitting on the bed, like I thought.

"What did Amos want?" he asked innocently.

I shook my head before running a hand through my hair. What I had expected was for him to blow up. I'd rather he have. Now I have to wait cautiously and see if he does. For ten minutes we sat there doing nothing. I took the chance and leaned down, capturing James' lips in mine for a long hard kiss that ended with us both panting for air.

I ran a hand over his forehead as he just stared up at me. I had no idea what was going on in his mind, but I know he was thinking. Our hands entwined and for a while we just sat there...

A/N: Honestly, did you think I was going to bag Amos that easily? Lol sorry for the long wait—but... we now know some new information... Remus' lost his mum, he's got a crush on Marlene, he's not the riches of guys, his father works for the ministry and is friends with Amos Diggory. Next chapter should have more to do with the Order because this one was more of a social thing! Anyway... review please!!
