Just Like Old Times
This is what they'd needed. The awkwardness of both being in Newport had not helped their strained relationship. Having to tiptoe around and not let rip had been hell. Newport was too shiny, too perfect. Trey had felt the weight of being watched and judged as much as Ryan had when he'd first arrived. They both needed to get back to their roots. They needed to mend the fragile broken bonds that had first frayed, then snapped due to their long separation.
Being back here, in their favourite bar had done wonders for them. They'd both had a damn good fight earlier, which had released some pent up energy. It had cleared the air between them and settled some old lingering scores. They were now both sat on bar stools and grinning at one another. Both were half-cut.
"Do you remember the time when Mom caught you making out with that skinny girl in the back seat of her car, she went loco and sprayed a whole can of anti-freeze on your privates, jeez I swear I never heard you yell so loud in my life, and I gotta tell you Trey that was not a manly yell! Shit, I thought Mom would bust a gut she was so mad."
Ryan remembered feeling so smug that he was not the one in trouble with Dawn for a change.
"Little brother let me tell you, if you had a can of that stuff spayed on your package you'd be yelling falsetto too! Anyway, you can talk, what about the time when Turo caught you and Theresa humping on the sofa. I swear I thought you were going to pass out, you went so pale."
Trey laughed at the memory of his brother trying frantically to do up his pants, whilst doing his best to placate Theresa's very muscular and angry sibling.
" Turo is build like a crap house Trey. Of course I was scared shitless, he'd already graphically told me what he'd do to me if he caught me messing with his little sister. Shit, he can sure pack punch but it was fucking funny when Theresa stepped in and started beating the hell outta him, I learnt that day to be a lot more scared of Tee, than Arturo. Fuck, that girl has a temper on her."
They both laughed at their shared memories. This is what they needed. The Cohen's wouldn't understand that getting ass-holed and fighting was what their relationship was built on. Polite conversations weren't what the Atwood boys were about. Trey ordered another round of drinks; they both turned on their stools and faced the centre of the room, they sussed out the possible points of trouble and checked out the honeys. A couple of girls were looking their way, the girls giggled as they caught the boys checking them out. Trey raised his eyebrow at his partner in crime. Ryan held out his glass and Trey reciprocated with a chink, as his glass touched Ryan's in a toast. Trey slammed back his drink and got up, Ryan followed suit.
The Atwood boys were back in town.
