Disclaimer: Come on. You know it. I know it. And Rumiko Takahashi knows it, because she receives all the royalties. So is it really necessary to say 'I do not own Inuyasha?'

What would happen if Inuyasha never managed to tell Kagome how he feels? The time is three years from now, Feudal Era. Naraku has (apparently) been defeated, and the shikon no tama has been completed. A certain Hanyou and Miko have met for one last time beside the Bone-Eater's well…

Three Words

You stand on the brink,
On the edge of the knife,
I'm watching you fall
You're fading away.

"So you're really going to go through with this?"
"…"
"…cause, you know, a lot of people are going to miss you on this side of the well."
"Inuyasha…"
"I'm not going to, of course, but you know how much Shippo cries, and Sango is going to be upset…"
"…Oh…of course…"

You're fading away from me,
As I scream your name
But I scream it in silence,
I'm screaming in vain.

"…It's going to be miserable without you here, Kagome."
"I'm going to be miserable not being here, Inuyasha. But as much as I love y- all of you, I don't belong in this century. I have to go back to my family."

Why can't I tell you?
My lungs gasp for air,
Three words, that is all…

"So this is…goodbye?"
"Yeah…I guess it is…"

Three words for salvation.
Three words…brought me fear.
I could not speak.

"Well, goodbye, then…have a good life…"

And I have lost you, forever.

Well. That didn't turn out the way I intended it to! I've been working on this poem for about a month now, and it refuses to bend in the direction I intended…so I thought I'd just give up and let it go where it would, because I'd hate to work that long and have nothing to show for it…but don't be surprised if you see elements from this poem in my next one, because I'm still going to try and tame it into the piece I originally conceived.
As usual, comments, critiques and suggestions are most welcome! Please, if you just can't stand it, let me know so I can work to avoid such occurrences in the future! And devout thanks to toxiclollipop, yumeyasha, and Kouga'sonlytruelove, who have kindly reviewed every poem and Inuyasha story I have submitted! You guys are truly an inspiration.

Err…also, if it's not too much trouble, could you guys let me know your favorite character and/or character pairing? I've got an idea rattling around in my brain that I think you might like…: )
