Bad Wolf

By Owarinari

She came into existence from a bruise in time. She floated, namelessly, without body or form for centuries, slipping through space and time until she stumbled upon the birth planet of the human race. She watched them, leading their lives, and listened to them tell stories. She was from one story that she chose a name for herself.

Bad Wolf.

She grew fond of these strange creatures, with their passionate emotion and vivid imagination. She found her first body in one, living through their eyes, before moving to another host when the human's frail body gave out. She slid through time and space again, trying different forms, but she always returned to Earth. It was the closest thing to a 'home' she knew.

She found herself pulled into one being in particular. From the moment of the child's birth, she sensed a great destiny in it, and anchored herself in the blonde child's mind, far more deeply than it had with any other host. She noticed changes that the baby could not have, being young, and not as attached to the time flow as she was.She sensed kinks in the line when the child's father died, saw a teenage blonde woman that should not be there, made links, and took the child's destiny into her own hands.

She spread her name, leaving marks with which the child could find her way to complete her destiny.

Rose Abigail Tyler was destined for great things.

It was in 2005, London, Earth when fate was set in motion. She felt the entry of a Time Lord, felt the universe hold it's breath as the two met. She felt the giddy rush of emotion run through Rose and was satisfied. She still spread her name as a reminder, praying Rose would remain as attentive and sharp as she knew the girl to be. She constantly told herself that once it was over she would leave, let the little girl have her own head back.

But by know, she knew herself to be too deeply attached to Rose to ever let go. She felt everything Rose did. Anger, fear, compassion and love, all thrown together in one purely beautiful, purely human mix. She tried to understand the reasons behind their love, knowing that they were a pair of 'star-cross'd lovers' in every sense of the word.

'Why bother?' She cried silently, appealing for an explanation from the universe. The universe was silent. It had no answer, either.

The moment came when the Time Lord, the Doctor, as Rose knew him, sent her back to her own time. She wanted to weep with Rose for the betrayal, and wondered if the girl would ever realise what the significance of the 'Bad Wolf' words were. She reached into Rose's conscious mind, stirring, trying to break through the barriers her human mind imposed upon her.

'Remember'

She felt the surge of understanding, and pulled back, waiting until the right moment to seize control of Rose's mind. Rose would not know what to do on her own. She knew the time machine, had spoken to her silently, and had an understanding on a level no human could understand.

Bad Wolf bathed in the terrible, beautiful power of the Time Vortex, the three entities, the TARDIS, the Vortex, and herself joining with Rose's life, enabling them all to return to where they had been banned.

Bad Wolf took control. Explained herself for the first time, and to somebody who blessedly understood. She allowed herself to be forced back with the vortex, taking the memories of the precious few moments Rose and her Doctor had shared, knowing that if Rose remembered, it would break her.

In that moment, the Bad Wolf stopped trying to understand Rose's love. If love had performed a miracle and defeated time, then perhaps the universe was not as doomed as the Bad Wolf had suspected.
