Well, like I said, I've no idea where this is going, so it may well peter out in a few chapter's time - but I'm sure there are people out thee who can think of no end of adventure's for these two buccaneers to go on - suggestions welcome! Oh and I don't own Jack, or John, or any of the other character's I'm no doubt going to plifer before this gig is up...
"Take what you can!"
"Give nothing back!"
The two men raised their glasses of grog in toast and grinned at each other. In the crowded tavern, other customers kept away, for it was a fool's errand to disturb Jack Sparrow and Long John Silver when they were about their business.
The place; Nasseu Port, the time; long after midnight, the problem; the treasure still on that godforsaken island.
"I don't like it John. Muntineers? Cap'n Flint? T'is a risky business."
"ah, matey, I reckon it is – but I heard tell Captain Jack Sparrow ain't one to mind a bit of risky business, for the right price"
The darker of the two men just snorted in reply, and took a long look at his drinking partner. It had been nearly a full year since he last laid eyes on Long John Silver, and what a change had come across him. Oh, he still had those powerful muscles, put to constant use propelling the one-legged man over land and sea. But his pale hair held well-hidden streaks of grey, his face devoid of the usual sailors tan – in short, he looked anxious and Jack didn't like to rely on skittish men. He knew Sliver's last voyage had gone wrong, badly wrong and he had spend the last few months drinking and cursing his way through a bad case of malaria. Though he would never have told his old friend to his face, he felt Silver wouldn't last another voyage.
Across the other side of the table, John's mind was racing just as quickly. He could see the doubt in Jack's eyes and it cut him to the quick, though not as much as the fear his doubt might be justified. They were neither of them young men, but Jack seemed to be bearing his years altogether better than John. He heard the man had got his beloved Black Pearl back, in some risky business almost as bad as John's fated cruise on the Hispanola. Jack held the cards, the ship, the crew – the things John needed badly to put things right.
