Mother's Love
Sheelagh walked in to the station with her baby girl, Niamh, in her arms.
Inspector Gold came walking through the reception doors and bumped straight into her. Sheelagh looked up and Gina saw how terrible she looked, tired from another sleepless night of baby cries.
'Sheelagh! What is that!' Gina barked, indicating to Niamh.
'A baby, ma'am…'
'I know it's a baby, PC Murphy, but why is it here?'
'Her babysitter cancelled on me and I couldn't find another one who's willing to start at 6 in the morning' Sheelagh whined.
'What about Patrick?'
'He's working.'
'Well you can't bring your kid here!'
'I'm sorry ma'am, it won't happen again.'
'It shouldn't have happened this time!'
'She won't be any trouble'
Gina sighed, giving in to Sheelagh's helpless tone. 'You're not taking her out on the beat; you can run around making tea for CID.'
'Lucky me.'
'Sheelagh' Gina warned.
'Yeah, okay.'
Sheelagh started making her way up to CID, only to have Niamh throw up on her,
'Oh, Niamh!' Sheelagh muttered as she changed directions and headed for the nearest toilet.
She entered the toilet covered in baby sick and smelling revolting. She looked around for a place to put Niamh while she cleaned herself up. A toilet flushed and Samantha Nixon walked out of a cubical.
'Sheelagh, hi.'
'Hey Sam. Could you do me a huge favour and hold her for a sec?'
'Sure,' Sam said as she took Niamh from Sheelagh's arms.
Sheelagh proceeded to clean the sick off her clothes.
'I've been meaning to talk to you actually Sheelagh, to see how you're coping…' Sam said trying not to sound interfering.
