A Broken Wheel
The town of Treegap had become unrecognizable. The once dirt streets were now black-topped and lined with white paint. The horses and buggies had all but disappeared, being replaced with the more efficient automobiles. The woods had receded, parts being bulldozed to make room for the towns ever-growing population. But as much as Treegap continued to changed, Winnie Foster stayed the same.
The months had flown by like hours to her, years feeling only like days. One minute she was fifteen, running away from home, and the next she was here. With her finger, Winnie traced the letter 'T' which had been carved into the tree which stood next to the spring . She wished she had never come back to this place all those years ago. But it was just a little too late to change the past. She had waited for him so long, and he never came back. He never came back.
Before turning from the tree, Winnie let her hand fall limply to her side. This was her curse, she supposed; an eternity thinking about a stupid boy.
