Thank you for trying out my story. If the characters seem off, it's because this piece was inspired by yet another experience of mine. (My first fic, The Abruptness of it All, was also from a personal incident.)

Hanging

He held his wrist tightly, adamant not to let go. His nails seared into his beloved's flesh, leaving garish purple marks.

"Let go, brat."

"Never."

He made to break the grasp, but the smaller one knew better. He was spun around, like a wrench servicing a loose bolt, and his escape ended for naught. Perhaps it really was a bad idea that he agreed to let him take self-defense lessons.

"Let go of me!"

"No." The grip was tightened. "Not until you tell me why you hate me."

He had already explained his side to Shuichi for so many times, but all was in vain. The boy never understood, and the more he tried to brush him off, the more he stuck.

"Why should I? You've never been able to comprehend the reason why, you dyslexic, talentless, social climbing idiot!" The words were extremely vitriolic, he knew, but he didn't really care.

A sigh. "You can keep calling me what you like, but I still won't let go."

He hated being called such horrible things, especially if they came from someone he really cared about. Why had it come to this? Two years ago, he and Yuki were inseparable. He loved him dearly, and he loved him back -- or so he thought.

"It's gone. I can't feel anything anymore, Shu," he said to him on that wretched August day, when they were having lunch together. He clamored for an explanation from the stoic man, but all he got was an indifferent "It just disappeared, that's all."

Of course he was crushed. He resolved to understand the dissolving of their relationship, but as time passed, the more he became confused. Gradually, his personality changed because of this. He was consumed by anger and fired with hate. Long ago, he would never lay a hand on his lover, but now, he could sink several hits into him without hesitation. Now, he was no longer the Shuichi who would do anything to make Yuki - HIS Yuki - happy. Now, all he lived for was desperation.

He was dying to know why he was suddenly so despised, so ostracized by the man who told him that they would always be together. Once, Yuki had even bought him a button with "You and me, always and forever," in hot pink lettering that matched his hair, but he doubted it would be of any significance now.

His thoughts were ceased when a rather violent tug pulled at his hand.

"Please, just fucking let go."

And that, he finally did.

He realized, as Yuki stormed off, that he would forever remain in the dark, blind to the truth. He was stuck in despair, hanging for eternity.
