An Ode to Leaving Middle-earth: Legolas Style
By Vané Alasse

Such a queer sort of thing
To be born in the spring
Under green leaves and blossoms galore,
But a much stranger thing
Is to leave all you've seen
And sail for a far distant shore.

With a dwarf by my side
And a strong flowing tide
And a ship running smoothly with grace,
I ride o'er the sea
Middle-earth behind me
For to see this great Valinor place.

So I've told them farewell,
Leaving mortals to tell
All the lays of the War of the Ring,
And I jump to the mast
Watching dolphins swim past
While I loudly and joyously sing:

Oh, the quest lies behind
But before me I'll find
A new land, a new home, a new life
With all the old friends,
Where the fun never ends,
And, who knows, maybe I'll find a wife!
