Crimson Coloured Fantasy – Prologue: In Cosmic Perspective

A Novelized Final Fantasy VII Fan Fiction

by Carbuncle15

News/Updates: (Update June 2006 – Chapter Redone) The question is can I stop rewriting this story long enough to actually go on with it? Problems I keep encountering is that, sadly, I can only describe so many different people before my brain starts throbbing from overuse of the thesaurus department, and that the cities like Midgar cannot be spoken of in normal means, because in all technicality this world does not fathom ours and so I cannot begin to describe Midgar as being New York on top of Chicago on top of Houston on top of a junkyard (sadly enough this description is entirely too vague and Final Fantasy VII has not grasped these cities in its life). Please bear with me and my eccentrics – I shall try harder to continue my "novel."

Warnings: Swearing, Alternate Universe, Violence

About: A lone girl in dreary seclusion. Brilliant white stars dot the sky. Waiting. Waiting for something to transpire.

Prologue: In Cosmic Perspective

Twinkling brilliance in the empty void of night sky shone out with flickering pulsations. The stars in their divinity were windows into the soul of the universe, their constant burning a reminder that time still ticked on—throbbing to the rhythm written and bound by the peoples below. Hidden beneath bulky grey clouds, the pearly white moon peered steadily down upon the land. Leering. It watched rivers swell with heavy rains, mountains crumble at the wailing of the Planet, and the soaring empire that rose from a desolate land like a swollen carbuncle.

Towering over sallow fields was the infamous Midgar City in its haunting metallic framework. In history it had been eight separate cities filled with throngs of townsfolk, but after the constant building and rebuilding of an empire, it had turned, in a sense, into a prison. Surrounded by walls of metal and dense plastics, Midgar had become multiple cities and social networks within itself—all dominated by one organization, Shin-Ra Incorporation.

Risk. That was what the girl had taken numerous times to climb to the top of Midgar. To stand upon the Reactor Zone was not the brightest of ideas; however, the woman knew that it had to be done. Calling. Breathing in deeply the overpowering perfume of burning flora, the girl coughed tiredly into her hands. Her emerald coloured eyes watered as steam billowed out from the vent she loomed over, but she felt deep within her heart that she had to be there at that particular time.

Bedecked in a paisley pink jumper, the wind that whipped about her made her feel chilled and assailable, even though she was wedged securely within an alleyway. Self-consciously, she tucked her vest about her even more snuggly, its red fibers were littered with ash and soot form a nearby chimney. Running her fingers through the ends of her brunette hair, she gave a meek smile.

Pressing firmly the palms of her hands together, she bowed her head in silent prayer. She had the uncanny feeling that she was being watched, but the only embodiment overhead was the luminous moon in its silvery appearance. Something was going to occur. Her people—those that had left her behind—whispered softly to her. She grinned, opening her tightly scrunched eyes.

Destiny was slowly ticking towards the ringing of the bells, the entire universe looking on.

Authors Note: Yes – I have seen Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children as well as the OAV with Zax and Cloud. There is also the rumor (which will hopefully turn into a reality) that Square-Enix is remaking VII for the Playstation III (and the deities curse me by turning my lifestyle into that of a poor college student '). Please, try to keep in mind that it's extremely hard to write Final Fantasy VII into a novel because of the complexities of the story (supposedly certain things were rushed in the game anyways). Please bear with me.
